fuchs 911 vs 944

how does one determine the difference between fuchs for a 911 and 944. I assume the offsets will be different. I am looking for a set of fuchs for my 1970 911 rebuild.

The part numbers possibly?

Thanks

You take them off a 944 and put them on eBay and they become 911 Fuchs.

951 Fuchs are different and well documented on here.

The 15" Fuchs are the same for the 911 and 944 and all have 911 part #'s.

Different serial number and offset in SOME cases. They will fit in all cases and will fill the wheel well with spacers.

The direct answer is by the part number. We can't tell you what part number until we know more about your build. Do an advanced search on this forum, Bill V wheel chart.

Lots of non-informative posts. Since you're apparently wanting to use the Fuchs you're considering on a 1970 911 rebuild, and your're considering possible Fuchs off of a 944, I'd assume that you're not considering wheels that match the original 1970 911 spec wheels (diameter, width and offset).
So, the first thing you need to do is to determine the diameter/width/offset you're going to want/need. Once you know those specs, I'm not at all sure whether wheels originally came on a 911 or a 944 will make any difference if they have the specs you want/need.
I'd suggest that you do a lot of research for others who have done "rest-mods" of the 1970-73 911's (and I'm not at all sure if the fenders of the 1970-71 are the same as the 1972-72), and learn from their experiences.
As a separate thought, with the strong appreciation of the long-hood 911's, you might want to seriously question deviations from original specs, mods, etc.

From a Chris Bennet post:
The 944 7x16 Fuch have the same offset as the 911 7x16's. 23.3 offset
The 944 ones have more brake clearance though.

The 944 8x16 Fuchs have a different offset (23.3 mm) than the 911 8x16's (10.6 mm)

Good info on Porsche wheel fitments here:

My response below pertains to 16" wheels:

Compared to a 7" 911 Fuch, the 951 8" Fuch gets 1/2 inch on the inside and 1/2 inch on the outside. A 911 8" Fuch gains all of the extra width on the outside.

951 8x16 are desirable for those of us that have narrow body 911's, such as my '74. A 911 8" Fuch will not work as it will rub, where as the 951 8" Fuch will work because it only gained 1/2 inch on the outside and the rest of the gain was inboard.

As stated, the 951 Fuchs allow for larger brakes as the 944 brakes were larger than the 911. I'm not sure how the factory did this because I have both 951 and 911 8x16 Fuchs and they appear virtually identical. The only noticeable difference that the lug nuts are recessed on the 951 Fuch.

The difference is the ET, 911 8 is ET10.6 951 8 is ET23.3, the center section of the wheel needs a certain thickness for strength, the 951 moves the center outboard hence the recessed lugs. This creates room for brake calipers behind the central petals.

The 951 8" x 16 looks like a 911. 7 x 16 does not have deep dish like the 8 x 16 911 part # 16 fuchs.
The 951 means 944 turbo it was a one year only wheel.
99% of the 951 part # 8 x 16 will be dated late year 85 or in year 86.
These 8 x 16s work on front of 911 sc and 3.2 carrera amd 930 cars and m491 cars.
With that said I tend to say for track use thats fine and run a 225/50 up front with a 245/45 in rear.

For street the 8 x 16 in front is overkill.

1986 944 turbo aka 951 for track use a great and to best set up is
951. 8 x 16 in front and 911 9 x 16 Fuchs im rear.

If you have a 1987 and later 944 turbo with ABS look for the super rare Magnesium 944 turbo cup phone dials.
But they tend to run in the 7000 to 10,000 for a set in year 2023 if you can find the.
For the Early 944 and 1986 944 turbo you can run the set up that was from the early turbo cup car 220hp cars ran
The 951 Fuchs 8s and 911 9" x 16 set up maybe $4000 needing resto and $7000 on BaT in 2023 for very nice orig or restored
