I did the wheels. 16 x 7 and 16 x 9 fuchs.....I have a Question...
I bought new (not refinished) 16 x 9 fuchs for the rear and moved my 16 x 7 to the front.
The finish on the new wheels is a flat black where my 7" is semi gloss black. Any tricks to make the flat go semi gloss? I have heard somewhere about vaseline but I am not sure of what I am talking about.  Any comments welcome. ------------------ David 1988 911 Carrera Coupe Leonoff Net |

The Vaseline rubbing treatment has been recommended for the bare anodized portion on the outer edge of the rim, but I don't know what the official position is on the painted centers. I did the vaseline trick and it helped a lot.
I just wonder how often I'll have to do it. The upgrade was expensive. each wheel is $675. Plus I bought brand new tires and inlaid crest center caps. Was it worth it.....YES! suggest perhaps giving car care specialties a call. 877-796-8300 or www.carcareonline.com I had a similar question last month about my old ('85) fuchs. they told me that (usually) fuchs are finished with wurth matt lacquer, since the lacquer has a much higher heat tolerance than enamel. also said that I could consider spraying on wurth clear lacquer if I wanted to have a high gloss (I don't) their advice was to use some 3M hand glaze and then put a coat of wax on the wheels. I had never considered waxing the wheels before, but the guy said why not? its painted and anything painted can benefit from having a coat of wax. I did glaze and wax my targa bar with mixed results. Had much better luck using vinylex on it. hope this helps ------------------ Steve '85 911 Targa |

3M hand glaze followed by Meguiar's 26 liquid made my flat black Fuchs look like satin or semi-gloss black. I now wax and/or glaze the wheels each time I wax the car. Helps avoid water spots and brake dust stains.
BTW more people need to be aware of the 3M glaze. Does a great job of deepening the color and hiding fine scratches. Follow it up with a good NON ABRASIVE carnauba wax (Meguiar's, Mothers, Malm's, etc.) and I think you'll be pleased. Doesn't last forever. Then again, what does? Anybody want some Zymol? That stuff is a PITA. I have no patience for something that not only expects you to wait for it to haze/dry for 2 min., but to wipe it off in the opposite/perpendicular direction. Please. Hey the car looks great. So far I have been lucky still and have managed to keep mine. any other upgrades? I added H4's to mine but still the same.

Nice car David.
My car is an 86 but is identical,color etc. I like the way those wheels fill up the wells. One of these days I will probably do the same but my todo list has quite a few things before I change the wheels. ------------------ Jerry '86 carrera coupe |

I have seen 10” wheels on a carrera (custom ordered fikse wheels). It requires a fair amount of modification. Think rerouting oil lines using the elephant racing lines that relocated them to a higher position. The car I saw also had things like shaved down bolts on the spring plates as well as other suspension mods.

wheel paint
Getting back to the original subject...
I painted the center inner part of a mesh type wheel with GLOSS black wheel paint that does not match the outer part of the wheel...which is semi gloss. Any suggestion as to how to turn a gloss to semi gloss? |
