Are you using rubber or cork gasket?

You just snug it - 6 or 8 nm I think it is. If you compress the cork gasket it will leak.

All you need is an even and small compression of the gasket.
If one wanted to get all OCD I'd suggest just trying it at the 18 in/lb number and see how much even that will compress it. The fact you're using a rubber gasket makes it nearly vibration proof so the nuts aren't likely to loosen up-only time and hardening will.

They were originally cork (mine is '82 SC):
1982 Porsche 911 SC Targa - Sensors - Page 2 Rubber should last longer and be more durable as long as heat is not a factor. |

"heat is not a factor"? ask a track tire with 30 heat cycles about that.
Nevertheless I would expect the rubber to hold up better. Assuming the rubber is good quality-not always the case.

Right that's my point. I'm sure Porsche spec'd cork there for a reason. I wouldn't be chucking a random rubber gasket on there. |
