Interesting dialogue on synthetic Martin. I ran a synthetic many years ago called "Blaze." (Not a very intelligent name for oil but...) ...Amazing stuff. Driving highway speeds... could take oil from dip stick and put in hand with it only feeling warm. Never used syn after that. Recently heard it does something to seals. Not sure if that is true or what it does. Dino oil is just habit for me.

If you drive high miles without oil changes go for it...I do not.
There have been too many studies that show no difference in wear when the oils (either) have not been compromised. My non syn does not get above 210 in Az ambient temps of 110 and is usually in the 190-195 range in anything under 100 degree's ambient so it would make no dif. If you run overly hot, or go for records between oil changes it makes sense...kind of.

interesting.
I have used Mobil 1 15W/50 in my older Pcars for years. in the process of building my current DE car, 86 951, I learned about Joe Gibbs HR non-syn, 15W/50. with that non-syn HR oil I usually change the oil on my 951 after two DE events. that car does not get driven in cold winter temps, but I do try to get it out a couple times over the winter if dry and temps above freezing. so far keeping Mobil 1 syn for my street/non-de cars.

Many of our air cooled cars have gone 300,000 miles on original motor. My car has 151,000 and just passed smog again from a regular smog shop. From my records my car in it's life has had a bunch of different kinds of oils in her. My point is if you take care of your car with tune ups and oil changes, the type of oil really just does not matter. The cars after 40 years have already proved that they are extremely long life no matter what. With 13 quarts in the case , they were over engineered to last a long long time. But Wesson may not work so well!

I've been using Mobil1 15w-50, with 5k changes or every 6 months, whichever comes first, for 30 years. Two Turbos and two normally aspirated, all air cooled. Never an issue, so I'm not experimenting.
