Unable to find the country code
Hello everyone,
Since 7 months, I'm a proud owner of a 1984 911 targa, black on black.. So far, this forum has offered me all of the answers I have searched for... But lately I've had trouble finding the country code for my car. If any of you have any ideas as to where I can find it, or why it is not present in my vin sticker, I would appreciate ![]() Thanks |

Possibly because it is a ROW car that went into many markets, and was not country specific.
Perhaps this is a basic specification, and only cars with enhanced specification needed country specific equipment & thus the country code.

See if you can find a similar sticker somewhere else on the car.
It would be C##

There was not a country code for every country. Country codes existed for countries that had special requirements for certain specifications that the basic ROW car would not meet. These countries varied over the years. The USA, Canada, Japan, France, Australia and Saudi Arabia come to mind as countries that had enough differences to have their own specification. There were years that there were two specifications for US cars; one for California and one for the other 49 states.
It sounds likely that your car may have been originally sold in a country that had no special requirements. JR |

Swiss cars often had their own special tag, which was added by the Swiss importer, so those cars can often be easily identified.
See the attached photo, for an example: ![]() |

I suppose you have already looked through the stamps in the service book, correct?

Thanks for your replies; highly appreciated!
Unfortunately; I don't have the original books. However I have some bills and the carfax.. Which led me to reconstruct the history: The car was imported in the US soon after it was produced, spent some 15 years or so in California and then in New York. 1 and a half year ago it was reimported back in Europe. And that were I bought it (I'm living in Italy).. Here are some of the other stickers ![]() ![]() Isn't the code for other country C99? Thanks again! Last edited by RėL; 07-19-2016 at 12:01 PM.. |

If it helps the "2351" on the sticker next to 114 is the dealer code where it was sold.

The "114" may be the code for the distributor. You might try to locate a copy of the dealer service booklet that was placed in the cars delivered there. It might have a the dealer codes listed.

So it's a greymarket car that was returned to Europe. Going to be hard to pin down where this one started life.

It's a 'ROW' car
On your VIN Compliance decal you can see that it was built on the 11th of '83.
The 1st VIN letter "W" tells you that it was manufactured in Germany 2nd letter "P" states that the manufacture was Porsche. 3rd "O" states that is a sports car *Note #4,5,6 - ZZZ, show that it is a European/rest of the world -aka- ROW car. 9th "Z" is for European. 10th, an "E", signify's the model year is 1984. 11th character, a "S", meaning that it was assembled at Stuttgart. So being that it is a ROW car there is no specific country code such as Canada or the USA, which would be shown with the characters "AA" or say Japan would have a "J" I hope that this helps you understand your VIN a bit better.

I just though that "by default" it would have a "C##" but I guess the car was meant for exportation..
Where do you see the dealer code? I can't see any "2351" anywhere ![]() Have you encounter other car without the country code? Would be curious to know how often it happened. Thanks for your replies; awesome forum! Last edited by RėL; 07-21-2016 at 06:17 AM.. |

Hi...As a matter of interest, what article have you read advises, that as a ROW car, that it was sold in Germany, and that 116 is the Country code? Also, which numbers on the label are the dealers code? I would be most interested to know of your reference info. BTW, being that a 'RėL' posted the original question, is this his car that you are referring to or is this your vehicle? Thanks in advance!
