I'm planning on a rebuild. It wont be until December, unless something bad happens sooner or I just can’t wait. SSI exchangers w/ new muffler, 20/21 cams, haven't decided on P&C's yet. Don't know if a c/r increase is worth it on my, so far, 100% streetcar. Waiting for the rebuild book to be done before I decide everything.

I'm in progress of doing the CIS-to-EFI project using the megasquirt ECU. Should be complete before spring time.

I'm also in the process of collecting all the pieces for turbocharging. I have the backdated exhaust that will feed a single turbo.

Still toying with the idea of 3.4 with 10.5:1, twin plug, work heads, extrude hone intake - already have the good exhaust, mass air upgrade, etc. Objective is 300 HP. Then fiberglass rear bumper to loose an extra few pounds to enhance the power increase.

But I really need the final copy of Wayne's Engine book (with color pictures) to complete the spec list!

Late next year I intend to start my R'ring project, the motor part is looking like a 2.5 liter shortstroke. Twin Plug, weber carbs SSI Dual in/out muffler. This from a current 2.2T motor. So JE high compression pistons, 2.7 Cylinders, a Mag 7R case normal rebuild stuff.

With some more research I should be deciding soon to either add a turbo or do a 3.6 transplant. I know the costs of a 3.6, starting to look into the turbo route....

If I go the 3.6 route i will have a very nice 3.0 euro with SSI's for sale which has all sorts of new parts including a new and apparently hard to find euro fuel distributor...

If I go the turbo route i think i will have to sell the SSI's and rebuild the 3.0 in preparation for a turbo. The turbo route to me seems more interesting...

I could snap and sell the SC and buy a 993 and start all over!

3.6 conversion in my 2325 lb. 78SC. The front oil cooler in the MA Shaw Yellow Bird valance will go in in the next 2 weeks. I haven't chosen a motor yet, but I've been accumulating the conversion parts and other items to change with the motor out. I am hoping to do a 2 day swap - drive into the garage on Friday night and drive out Monday morning to go to work.

Ryan - you have to go with the 3.2 jugs and pistons as long as you are rebuilding!

Okay, time to learn. Tell me (and everyone else) about this MegaSquirt thing? I read the home page the other day, but it wasn't 100% clear? This is an open-source system that someone designed using off-the-shelf components (like the Linux of the EFI world) to replace troublesome fuel injection systems (like CIS?)...

More info please...

I plan to fix some oil leaks. I am going to build SS heatexchangers and install a G50 tranny. Maybe upgrade the turbo to a K27. I hope to have it all done by spring.

I'm planning on looking for a 2.4 crank for my 2.2 T case, installing E p&c'S and E cams with an MFI setup for my early P. I need all these bits so I'll be posting some WTB posts. I'm armed with the engine book so apsrt from the parts I'm all set

I would like to rebuild, might not be until O4' Mine is a 78sc motor in a 73T body

Like this:
used 9.3 PCs from a newer 3.0, 3.2 or...
have my Cs replated and after market pistons
hotter cams, probably a regrind
have the crank checked
re bush the Con rods
used carbs
aluminum pressure plate.
re curve the distributor if necessary/possible
new oil pump
pressure fed tensioners
heads rebuilt at the place you used with stainless valves

the normal budget rebuild!!

This is an area I’m still very unsure about and I bet Wayne’s book would take care of my ignorance here.

I thought that the SC heads would not seal to Carrera Cylinders. No grove for the sealing ring I believe. Is there a way around this or do I need new heads too? $$$ Ouch!

Also, I have never met anyone that has actually done 20/21 Cams AND 3.2 P&Cs. I’ve met guys that have done one or the other and the guys that have done the Cams have been the happiest w/ it. Actually I’ve only met one guy w/ the short stroke 3.2 and he said he felt like he needed to be at 5000 rpm all the time to stay in the power. Anyone else have experience w/ this?

I would love to talk to someone who has personal experience w/ both mods on their engine.

Read my other thread on detonation before you start to mess with stock 3.2 engines...

The 3.2 and SC heads are nearly identical - just the ports, and the size of the intake runner mounts are different. The way they mount to the cylinders is the same...

since I am in Germany for a few years, I have decided to concentrate on the heart of the car, engine and suspension. I have decided to go with a 3.6 (993) transplant...this project will start NLT Feb, and the second part of the project will follow into the summer and will include new shocks all the way around with beefed up components where needed.

While I don't have an engine-project planned, my New Year's Resolution is to build up a 915 with "Airport Gears" or something close and low-ratio for the 2.7 to give it some extra punch.

I also have an engine to rebuild, in my Carrera 3.0. I will probably go with 3.2 P&Cs and 964 cams, along with a 930 oil pump, dowel pinning the cases, lightening and balancing the lot. Not before fall, though, as professional commitments will prevent any serious work for 2003.

I hope most of my "Engine Project" will be finished soon after '03 rolls in.
Then, I intend to drive, drive, drive!
