Tensioner upgrade for sure (shooting for doing it at 50K miles). You going to have another "ragin' deal" on tensioners in the near future Wayne? Beyond that, it depends on my mood and budget.

Complete rebuild for me....mostly to stop all oil leaks.
I figure as long as I'm going to drop the beast...why not do it right? (Darn you Doug!) LOL Have been toying with several ideas for modification...O-ringing everything (to get rid of leaking gaskets)....maybe a gear drive for the cams...definately a coil on plug ignition....maybe a different type of injection system. Over-all idea is to clean up the engine...both visually and oil-wise. Bob

Install oil cooler and fan- believe it or not- current car has no oil cooler :O -as it was a standard 'T'.
Engine does not seemto pass 210F at the mo. as I have only driven it past 3 months and spirited for short bursts!. Also try and squeeze some more rubber under those narrow fenders! otherwise may have to go for the SC/RS flares- no tail tho! Lastly to resolve oil leaks ![]()

I plan on buying a used 2.7 or 3.0 to rebuild myself and then install in my '69 as an upgrade to my stock 2.0 liter.
Wayne's book will be a must for me soon.

I bought engine management for my '69, I'll use it to fire the plugs for now. I plan on buying TWM throttle bodies, and making a sequentially injected, twin plugged 2.2 race motor. The base 2.2 motor is solid as a rock, previously I built the bottom end with a cross drilled crank, a modified main bearing. installed a 930 oil pump, shuffle pins, oil by pass mod, etc.
More importantly is finishing the car for this years race season.... Im hoping the car is between 1750 and 1800 lbs, and Im going on a diet too ![]() Oh yea Megasquirt is like the Heathkit electronics kits you could buy to build a stereo etc ( years ago)... the will sell you a circuit borad and instructions...... with some software support as well....

Rick,
I may have a good 2.7 for you this spring? You would just need the exhaust for it...you know it runs like a scalded raped ape!

I need to complete the 3.2 swap into my '73. Engine is sitting on it's new SSIs, Tranny is complete w/ quaife, wiring still needs some work to complete, and I need to finish hanging the rear suspension prior to engine install. It's been sitting for months now, time to finish it before spring.

You are right Smitty, after driving your car, I realized that a 2.7 will satisfy my needs!
Let's talk and figure out what we might be able to do.

2.5 short stroke, 7R case, oil bypass modification, sc oil pump, reconditioned rods, mahle rsr pistons/clyinders, E spec cams and mfi, throttle bodies just back from Eurometrix. Machine work is done, just need to pay for those pistons and cylinders!

I have a 2.7 that I have (at least at this time) decided NOT to put in my 914. I have been looking at various early cars with the intent of building a retro engine, i.e., strip off the CIS and install carbs. Or, if I'm real lucky and find a car with MFI, I might try to move it over to the 2.7. Waiting for Wayne's book to verify that I will want to change the cams and install P/Cs to fully augment the carbs. Finished off with a street header system, this should be a fun car. I honestly don't care how much power it makes as long as it runs perfectly. I'd rather have 170 HP than a poorly set up and tuned motor with 225 potential that it never sees.

headwork; Quaife; monoballs and Chuck Moreland's strut tower brace. Then, I'd be almost "done" with the medium to large projects (if it's even conceivable to be "done"!) until the motor comes apart totally.

My list:
#1 Pray to the Porsche Gods that my motor doesn't give out this year. Assumed a rebuild or transplant winter 2004 when I bought it this fall. '83 SC currently has 165k. I expect to put on around 5-7k miles a year. #2 Learn as much as I can about working the motor. Read everything I can get my hands on and vistit NoVA foks who are doing engine projects to get more hands on. #3 Learn to tune the engine to maximize performance. Buy tools to set correct mixture adjustment. Set timing for idle and 6,000 RPM (buy adjustable light). Valve adjustment & major tune up. #4 Figure out O2 system and decide if I'm keeping it or scrapping it. Think it's currently broke. #5 Fix oil leaks. #6 Go to Mobile 1 synthetic with oil change. #7 Lurk around waiting for opportunity to buy a 3.6 at a crazy low price. Gordo

I have a 3.2 swap in progress right now and should be done in about 2-3 wks. I came into a sweetheart deal on a 3.2 with 8k miles on the rebuild and all kinds of upgrades. It worked out to be a lot cheaper than rebuilding my smoky 3.2. Sway-Away spring plates are going in when the engine is out, then she goes in for an alignment and then she's ALL DONE!

I'm building my 2.4L hotrod motor; I'm planning on offering the engine as the subject of an engine building clinic to be taught by "zuffenhausen" and his dad. I'll just be a wrench-turning peon. Recap- 2.4L, GE60 cams, 10.3:1, case updates, massaged heads, sport exhaust, Webers. Then I've got a stock 2.4T MFI engine in pieces in boxes in my garage. I hope to drop off the parts for that at the machine shop in the next few weeks. The rebuild should commence by summertime, as it is much less complicated than the hotrod motor. -dtw
