Seeking Ideas/Examples of Clutch Pedal Repairs

My '74 clutch pedal bent. After bending it back, is lasted for a few months but bent again. I have tried to order a new one but they are no longer available. I purchased a used pedal but it seems to have the same issues.

Has anyone welded a piece of steel to their pedal to "brace" it up? I'm looking for ideas before I attempt to weld any additions to mine.

Thanks in advance...

Binding bushing or Godzilla clutch???

Hey Vern,

What's up??? Is the pedal bushing seized, or did you put in a high effort Pinto clutch??

Did a PO install a clutch stop lower down on the foot boards??? Or is the clutch cable seized in the housing.

My 74 is bone stock and the pedal seems to get the job done easily.

Is there some bad JuJu going on, perhaps a Natzi Dyke Hooker had her dog give you the Evil Eye???

Seen it happen, and it wasn't pretty.

Best of luck,
chris

sorry, no photos

I'd try and figure out why you are bending clutch pedals first. Something down the line is not right. Unless it's an extremely heavy pressure plate, go over the entire clutch system. I'd be concerned that with a reinforced pedal you will most likely begin to stress something else(clutch cable, throwout fork etc). Unrelated to the issue you are having, but my car's PO grenaded the gearbox because of excessive slack in the clutch cable. As I found out later(after going through the gearbox and trying to adjust the clutch)the clutch pedal snapped at the pivot and got re-welded on a wrong angle, causing too much slack in the cable.

In regards to the new pedal being NLA, have you confirmed that with a Porsche dealer? The part number is valid and comes up in both Porsche Classic EPC and online parts retailers for about $50

This started when I installed a new clutch & cable and I pushed the pedal in (from outside the car) and put too much side force onto the pedal and it bent inward (towards the brake). I bent it back into shape but it seems like there has been some metal fatigue and may bend again. It is currently working but I was thinking of adding some bracing since I cannot find a new pedal anywhere on the net.

Pedal cluster is otherwise in great shape and has had all the bushings replaced.

I will check again regarding getting a pedal from Porsche. I've ordered this twice from Pelican and each time I've been told "Porsche only part, from Germany, + 20% and then later get notice that it is not available)/ I really wish they would take the item of the sales list since it is frustrating to go thru the order process and then get turned down.

I'll take a pick when I get home. Yes, it is currently removed from the car and replaced with a used replacement. However, it looks like the replacement has bent in the past but I cannot confirm that.

Shows NLA at Sunset Porsche here in Oregon. They are normally very up to date unlike some other on line sites. My go to site when Pelican shows NLA.
91142307705 is still available.... Not so cheap...

Vern you can probably get it from Pelican. It usually comes up unavailable locally then they order it from Porsche Germany and it gets shipped over.

Mine is out of the car...

Hi Vern,

Mine is out of the car and disassembled for a cluster refit. If you need any measurements of an "Unmolested" clutch pedal arm, lemmeno,

:-) Chris
