Replacing Batter Cable - Question

Our host doesn't seem to sell the positive battery cable. Is this something that is usually just made at home (i.e., buy cable and install ends).

Does anyone know the approximate length? Is this 4 gauge? If possible, I want to buy this today before I go home so I can't measure.

I noticed I have exposed copper on the cable, near the starter so I think I will replace the cable. Even thought the exposed section is not in an area that is likely to short. I will take this opportunity to use a red cable vs. the black cable that is currently there.

I cut mine and reterminated and it was suggested that it was a 1 gauge although down to 3 was suggested. Here is a link to the posts:

what gauge is + battery cable

The positive goes from the battery through the bulkhead into the tunnel and then back. You will have to approximate the length conservatively. Sorry I can't help you there.

Buy 11 feet of #2 AWG (32MM) welding cable (for flexibility and strand count, Excelene 105C rated welding cable is what I use.)
Install a sheath of 1/2" PVC to protect it. (Real pain in the butt as it is a tight fit, get some yellow 77 wire lube)
Measure against the old one for length and cut it.
Solder the stripped ends in a solder pot and crimp the large starter lug. Replace the positive post as needed.

or get from the dealer like I did, but I never used it. It is on my shelf. I opted to just replace and for extra insurance solder the poop out of it. Worked like a charm.

I had a hairline fracture on my posi terminal connector. Lessen, do not over torque the terminal connectors.

91161202222 is the positive cable. Fairly expensive compared to buying the cable.

Superceded to this number 91161202228

I ended up buying a #2 AWG cable from Grote. I didn't think I have the patients to sheath my own cable and this should be sufficient. It comes in a 25' length so I have room to screw it up and I can sell the left over on the classifieds. Thanks for the recommendations; I probably would have bought 4 or 6 gauge.

Any recommendations on the end parts? my biggest problem at the battery end is that I need a post to supply power to the amplifier, trickle charger, etc..

Here's what I bought:

100% Copper Cable
All Battery Cable is spooled
Meets all SAE code J1127 specifications
1000'+ custom size spools available upon request
Polyethylene (CPE) jacket rated at -40°C (-40°F) to 90°C (194°F)
Color: Red
Gauge: 2
Outside Diameter: .468"
Strand: 19 x 16 x .0142"
Length: 25'

The wire you bought will work well. I like the idea of the extra sheathing just for abrasion. (Porsche did too)
Check out Waytek for battery posts in different configurations.
eBay or Amazon as well once you find a style you like.
Even a local FLAPS.
Waytek has the vinyl sheathing, but 100 ft length minimum....

Thanks Dennis for the advice! I'll take a look at the sheathing.

I jsut installed new battery terminals (blingy yo!!). I selected ones that had some interesting mounting options, which made them better in my opinion.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JK9FTZI
KnuKonceptz Ultimate terminals. Told ya, blingy!

I don't have the equipment to crimp big cables like the 2awg starter cable, so I wanted something that had set screws. I like this one because it took the starter cable (wrapped with extra wire to make it fill the 0AWG hole), the 4awg cable that is feeding my new fuse box, and then has the screw mount on the side for the ring terminals that feed the ignition switch. On the ground side, I used the 4awg hole for my busbar, and the screwed in battery terminal mount for the factory ground terminal. I'll probably end up cutting that off and putting the cable end in the 0awg hole.

This is a pair, $35 for the pair with a few extra mounting options is pretty good! and, this thing is a single monolithic machined piece, they weight a pound each!

If you decide to go with normal ternimals and giant ring connector, I can across this the other day:
https://theelectricaldepot.com/battery-terminals-accessories/fusion-solder-battery-terminal-clamps-lugs?zenid=0ec90550f4d72bb12a681ee82802c8e9

Which seems head and shoulders easier than some of the giant solder connections I've seen.

That being said, if you do find that you use less than half of that 25ft cable, I will buy the other half, so I can run a new starter cable.
