				last hurdle . binding omega

Putting my engine back in after almost 2 years. One of the things I had to do was get a good used pair of heat exchangers for my 78 as mine were rusted out. I could only find thick flange exchangers so replaced all the exhaust studs and ground off the lip on the exchanger that fits into the head. Move forward a year and I am putting it back in. The last thing I have to do is adjust the clutch gap and preload and I cant seem to get it , iv done it lots before with never an issue. I have discovered the problem . The Omega spring is binding on the cutout in the heat exchanger so it would let me make the adjustment as the spring is not moving freely. This is very disheartening as I was on the home stretch . Does this mean I have to take off the heat exchanger and see if I can force it over or possibly grind more of a cutout ? I guess I could move the omega and just use a dremmel to make the cutout a little larger ..is this an acceptable solution or considered draconian and unacceptable ? thanks

I did that when I replaced with a NOS exchanger, no big deal just don't go too deep to break thru

I had to do it on my SSI's. I just hammered the pinch weld lip down until I had enough clearance. It's really disheartening to have to put hammer and chisel to those pieces of art.

okay guys sounds like that is the path forward. seems less working than taking the exhaust system off again .. But yes , disheartening is the right word. It barely touches so I don't think I have to go too deep. just have to get the damn spring off again now ..

I had my replacements for a couple of years waiting to go on .. so I just put them on .. the SSis im hoping show up in a couple of weeks . Gonna leave that project for another day along with the oil line to the external stat , that ne sounds exciting as I have read some real horror stories. For now just wanted to get the car running .
