Pop the gauge out of the dash and make sure all the wires are connected to the back. (Mine like to vibrate loose once in a while.)

And check the ground at the Oil Level Sending Unit at the tank, it lives in a very harsh environment.

Find the connection to the tank in the wheel well.
Is there a tube from inside the engine compartment passengers side with a couple of wires in it leading to the oil tank area?
(Assuming for your '66 in your garage as you haven't indicated the year)

Which oil gauge are you talking about? Level, temp, or pressure?

Look past passenger side inside quarter panel towards the motor side and you will see a circular unit with 2 wires on it. One feeds the gauge on the dash and the other is a ground. Clean both terminals and then see if gauge works and if not you will more than likely have to replace the float mechanism inside the oil tank itself.

Look for this:

The smaller wire is the ground.

I had similar problem recently. Per Gerry's above pic, my pressure electrical switch was loose. As simple (and stupid) as it sounds, make sure it's connected from front to back.

Worth noting, IF the pressure sender is loose DO NOT simply try to tighten it up while it is place on the engine! It screws into a machined block that is fastened to the side of the engine case with a hollow bolt. If you try to tighten or loosen it while in place on the engine one of 2 things are likely to happen: 1) You break the hollow bolt that holds the entire sender and machined block to the engine case, or 2) you don't break the bolt but break your engine case where the hollow bolt fastens it all.

So remove the horizontal hollow bolt and remove the sender with the machined block and chock it up in a vice to tighten or loosen THEN fasten the assembly to the engine with the hollow bolt.
