R134a Canister to Fill Hose

The 30 lbs canister if R134a I received has that valve and connector:

That won't connect to the Master Cool gauge set...

Because it is too small

for this:

I tried contacting the refrigerant vendor to ask about an adapter but no response after a week...

Any suggestions?

The fitting on the jug is an R12 fitting. You can simply get an extra R134 yellow charge hose and also get a R12 charge hose.
Simply cut off one end on each hose, insert the R12 barbed fitting into the R134 hose
and clamp tightly with a good hose clamp. Then you will be set for future use as well!
I made a charge hose like that years ago and it still works great!

Thank you both!
Now I wonder why a R134a canister would have an R12 fitting

Your caliper readings look pretty close to the specs on that fitting you found.
The tank has the HVAC industry standard 1/4" flare. It's is the same as the fitting on a car that uses R-12, so not necessarily a specific refrig fitting. This is what I have so I can use my regular refrig gauges.

No, I don't think the R12 to R134A ADAPTER, 1/4" FEMALE FLARE WITH O-RING X 1/2" ACME MALE will work.

The connections are backwards. The 30 lb cylinder valve should have a 1/2" ACME male thread and the hose has 1/4" female flare.

Here is a link explaining the ACME thread: http://www.unionmillwright.com/2884.pdf

I think you need a 1/2" ACME female with a 1/4" male connection.

Giles, the Ace Hardware near me has a ginormous selection of flare fittings & adapters - bet they have something that would work. Maybe one near you does, too?

I'll try the one near me, thanks Rawknee!

You need a standard charging hose.

Had same issue. Went to AC place with valve and manifold... quick sort. Adapter. Think threads were different too.

Zippy.
You need a 1/4 female flare to 1/2 male acme.
Period. That is standard R12 to R134 stuff.
Shoul be available all over the web for $4-10. Look at conversion kits as well. My vacuum pump came with one, since it had a 1/4 flare fitting on the housing.

The flare fitting seals along the flare surface, metal to metal. The ACME connector seals along the oring, and has the steep, squared off sticky out part on the male side.

Industry standard is R12 stuff is 1/4 flare, R134 stuff is 1/2 acme. Period.

Now, it's some shady stuff that your R134 tank has R12 threads, which makes me wonder what you actually have in there. It must be a recycled tank?? What brand R134 did you get, some Chinese stuff?

Here, he has R12 gauges, so he had to convert the 1/2 acme threads to 1/4 flare to fit his gauge set.

Actually I have the new R134a gauge set, and the tank appears to have a R12 fitting.... If that makes any sense.

Just what Billybek said. Go to an HVAC supplier and get a charging hose.
It will work on your 134 manifold gauge set. You will need one of those.

I meant that discseven had an R12 gauge set, and an R134 tank, so he needed a 1/2 acme FEMALE to 1/4 flare MALE, the opposite of what you need.

I would not get a different hose for your gauges, since the TANK is the wrong thing, not the hoses. Buy one of the adapters I listed, put it on the tank, then toss it when you finish the tank. The gauges you have would work fine with any other R134 tank, which should have an acme fitting on it.

What brand r134 did you get, and from where?

I'm pretty sure that's a tank of tripple patented, top secret sauce used in reversed gasses systems that is sold by some dude in Florida that likes a certain brand of cereal! Right Gilles?!?!?!
