What is the "Correct" hose to use for fuel tank venting?

The vent hose on my '74 is old and brittle and I am going to replace tonight. The current hose appears to be clear plastic tubing - is that correct of is it supposed to be vacuum/fuel hose?

Oh no, it should be fiber wrap fuel line, check the PAG katalog for the part number.

Wow, just learned something. Interesting. I guess as long as it holds up to the fuel.

Here's my 81.

Supplementary data:

It rubs the lotion on it's skin or else it gets the hose again. Yes she will, Precious. It will get the hose.

My '77 has fiber wrapped hose, but I've always hated the frayed look so I'm replacing it with smooth surface rubber fuel hose.

My midyear had the same clear tube for the vent hose. I tried to move it to install the headlight relay and it burst into a million pieces. I couldn't find the right diameter hose on pelican. I have standard fuel hose from FLAPS that is close but not exact.

I used PVC hose from my local hardware store.

The late great Jim Sims says:

From the 1972-73 Factory Parts Catalog the following fuel resistant PVC tubing is required:
ID in mm x OD in mm x length in mm
9 x 12 x 140
9 x 12 x 210 (2 pieces)
9 x 12 x 270
9 x 12 x 470
15 x 21 x 220
15 x 21 x 600
the 9 x 12 should map to 3/8" x 1/2" McMaster-Carr 5552K27
and the 15 x 21 should map to 1/2" x 5/8" McMaster-Carr 5552K28 (this PVC stretches quite a bit).

Be careful with the plastic tees and fittings; they may be NLA.

Jim
This is the McMaster Carr Catalog Page for the hoses: McMaster-Carr

Yep 9mm x 12mm i think is the size. I used 3/8" X 1/2" fuel hose from FLAPS sold by the foot. You will need new hose clamps as the 1/2" OD is too big for the factory clamps.

Also, there's a 'check valve' thingy in the line to the front by the battery. It's a little metal bullet thingy. I'm not sure if it is for smell or keeping fuel going in one direction.

You can get the pdf off of Porsches website for your car. Look under Porsche classic.

I found clear tubing at Orchard Supply Hardware and it was labeled "for chemicals, fuels, and gasses". I bought 5 feet for $2.25 and that gave me enough room to put all the hoses together at the central block and then cut to fit feeding the hose thru the maze of wiring. 1/2 hose diameter seems to be an exact, snug fit.
