Dansk making replacement LWB chassis

Breaking: Dansk Offering New Complete LWB Early 911 Chassis - Plug The Net

30 grand+ for just the tub is not cheap at all
And not worth anything for the real 911's; transplanting a vin just makes it usable, not collectible.

So perhaps for a bare bones, caged, track car, i can see the use..
But it's still just a replica at that point. a very good one but it's a replica.

Value of aircooled engines, suspension parts and trannies will go up if this is true.

In a few years this will not be considered a stigma, but rather a plus.

So my 67s vin in this tub would be worth less even though ill be replacing 60% of the sheetmetal if not more in the original tub at a higher cost.

Does anyone else find it strange that in the last 12 hours the internet is flooded with articles about a replacement unibody, but yet no indication of such from JP Group on their websites?

Or that every article uses the same photograph, which shows black e-coated parts from the existing Dansk offerings on what looks to be a galvanized tub? As if the tub were simply a display for the individual panels (entirely likely at a trade show.)

Where's the signage/fanfare at the Dansk/JP Group display? Web presence? Dealer notifications?

Even the 30K price concept came from the musings of one single, unaffiliated blog from what I can tell; the photo itself from the Guard Trans FB page it seems.

Is this even verifiable, or a case of internet rumor birthing an unintentional hoax?

I'm dubious until I see something from JP Group.

and in my opinion, 30K would be entirely reasonable for a good replacement unibody.

whether or not it would be "good" would remain to be seen - I'd want to see it on a Celette with a copy of the body dimension guide handy...

Has Dansk got its act together concerning heat exchangers? I would hope that the reports of problems with the transition from SSI to Dansk were a thing of the past, before they go on to complete chassis.

How many early 911s were so rusty that most of the original structure was replaced anyway? I have no idea, but many.

It is sometimes like my grandpas old axe. The handle has been replaced 5 times and the head just once but it is great to have grandpas axe to split the firewood.

It was only a matter of time, especially considering the crazy price increases 911'a have seen over the past few years. It will be interesting to see if the chassis are any good. I've heard a lot of complaints about the poor fit of the Dynacorn Mustang and Camaro bodies. The replacement Mustang body is $18.5k and the Camaro is $13.5k, this doesn't include fenders, hood, or bumpers.

If this is true & the quality is good, these would be great starting points for Singers rather than sacrificing an original body. Might even inspire other companies to do the same.

Singers are based off a 964 chassis

If this is actually happening (I'm dubious), they won't be very good - ever try to fit a dansk fender? muffler?

I jigged up 3 stainless Dansk mufflers today to convert to RSR/Rally - one was off 7/16" in height right to left over a 24" span.. (and that is a relatively small part.)

If Dansk is making a tub, you know nothing will fit onto it.

FWIW, I don't even think this is real. If it were, Porsche would have made an announcement.

Dansk would need Porsche's permission to build these.

I don't see it.

I'm calling BS as well.

I think the blog linked in the original post took info and speculation from this thread in the Marketplace discussion forum.

If you look at the Google Image search results, you'll see that the Pelican thread was posted before the plugthe.net article.

I've been travelling today after the day sick in bed yesterday and only in the last few minutes seen the posts of my FB page and these articles. I've pulled the picture and posts. It appears I've being given credit/responsibility for things that are no more than internet rumours.

The picture is hosted here on Pelican along with several others:
New LWB 911 Body!

I have no clue where people pulled prices from. I have no involvement in producing or selling these parts. I removed the thread from my page because I don't want it to appear like I'm peddling or pushing something I know next to nothing about. I don't know where the articles got their details from and I don't want credit for a photo I didn't take. The OP of the above linked Pelican thread in Marketplace appears to be the photographer and deserves credit for the photo. And maybe he can shed more light on what is really for sale.

Ah, that's helpful in working this backward to determine if this is more than internet wishful-thinking. My apologies if I've contributed to this by referencing your FB page, Matt!

Keith,
No apologies required. Some new posts on my fb page suggest this may in fact be real. We will see what comes out.

I have a 77 Carrera 3.0 tub. It was a DP car at one point so the tub had been cut and hacked almost to the point of no return.

If I got one of these Dansk tubs, and affixed my VIN, is it still a Carrera 3.0?

Years ago Porsche would sell you a replacement tub. They also sold unmarked engine cases. Is this right? I dunno. I'd like to think original is what the word implies. How much of a car can you replace before it is no longer the original car? 50% 60%???
