My new 1972 911 T Project/Craigslist Special
I just got my new 1972 911 T project into the garage. This was a good Craigslist/garage find. It's been sitting in the garage since 1996.
+'s Numbers matching Complete car NO SUNROOF ![]() Complete original motor with MFI and 915 trans "S" front metal bumper with "S" trim Original interior in good shape (except shelf) No rust, solid floors, torsion tubes, rockers, rear deck Just surface rust on the front pan (still has two batteries!) Original paint code is the really nice and rare Silver (936) Original orange bar Porsche emblem -'s Not running but I will be working on that (I have a good idea whats wrong, and a good Poker face) Painted Guards Red (and rough) Rear bumper update with center Porsche reflector (could be a positive because the reflector looks really good to sell $$$) PO painted window trim black Cookie cutter wheels Whale tail A few dings and scrapes from being in a two car garage packed with crap since 1996 Broken Passenger door lock and A pillar glass I'm either going to restore it to original or make it a Hot Rod 911ST for the street. I'm not sure yet. Here are the crappy pics from my phone. I realized I'm very Patriotic in the garage. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Great find. I'm envious.
![]() I say keep stock. There's getting to be less and less of them each year that goes by. If you go the ST route you probably won't be satisfied with the original 2.4T and you'll end up doing a swap and... you see where I'm going. The RS replicas were all the rage a few years back and now there yesterdays news. Same will happen with the ST replicas.

I have a certain fondness for the 72's. but let's get real.
Is that the new Spyder? If so, please tell us what it's like!

Why not go RS since you already have a fire breathing ST track machine?

![]() ![]() Yea, I lucked out. Someone tried to buy it out from under me after I left a deposit, if I find out who you are, you are toast! ![]() I already recieved an offer from someone else to buy it. I'm leaning towards stock, but if the motor needs to be opened up, its getting 90mm pistons and barrels. I just love the ST's- Way too many RS clones (I'm guilty), Not many ST's because of the steel flare costs to do it "right". But then again, nothing cleaner looking than a stock vintage longhood. This car probably* will be sold when its done, so stock is looking like the potential target. Either case, I'm going to do it "Right" for sure. *I say that now..... Ohhhh and the Spyder....... Best car I have EVER driven or owned.

Great Find Chad!
I say keep it as original as you can or just use bolt on parts.

I'm not wasting any time. I tore into it today for a little bit. I'm suprised to find no hint of rust in the headlight buckets! You can see some of the red paint flaking away to reveal the real color. I took the windshield out, and also no rust. I'm very happy.
I will be replacing the front pan however, it needs to be right. The two batteries took their toll more than I thought. I also removed the front bumper and found what I think is an old school alarm (Correct me if I'm wrong). It is a full on bell! lol ![]() ![]()

Nice, Chad! I had a '70 with the exact same school-days bell in the trunk. For *****s and gigs I whacked it with a ratchet and I don't think my hearing returned for 3 hours.
Here's a little east coast inspiration for you, along with another vote to stay original. Also code #936: (before) ![]() (after) ![]()

From one owner of a CL special to another, congratulations! Nice find. I too, had someone try to buy mine out from under me, but the PO was a stand up guy that stuck by his word.

Great job Dave. That car looks awesome. It's great motivation to see that final result.
I've decided to restore it stock. I'm going to drop the motor and trans and refresh/rebuild while it is getting paint. On 72's are the engine compartments painted black or the body color? uksailmaker- I got a good deal. Some friends are making offers to buy it, and it is very tempting just to flip it for cash as is. It's not a question of what I paid, it question of what it's worth. ![]()

Engine bay is body color oversprayed with black. I ended up going so overboard with detailing my engine, I couldn't stand to darken the engine bay with black, so I just left it silver. If I ever want to go full concourse, I can spray some black paint around in there.

Update 3/31/11:
Things are progressing well when I have time. I'm still just stripping everything and cataloging it in ziplock bags. I removed the passenger side trim/windows to test soda blasting the black paint off. I tried paint stripper, it got the paint off easily, but the primer under it was a tough. I removed the rear window to see if it has the notorious rear deck rot...... I'm delighted to say there is only a half dollar size circle of surface rust around the area where there are normally HOLES! ![]() When I was carefully pulling the one piece foam off of the adhesive on the rear deck (came off in one piece, so I can reuse it-OEM), I found the most unlucky Bee from 1971/72 Germany. Some worker glued him in...lol I'm just going to remove all the orange adhesive, and fix the half dollar surface rust area. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Those are entirely wrong for a T. I will be happy to take them off your hands for $20, though.

![]() *** Correction *** Since the car has the "S" trim, I was told they could of ordered "S" brakes also back then. I rolled the dice and ordered the COA from Porsche a few weeks ago. Maybe it will be a good one. Fingers crossed.
