A arm tow hook question

Getting ready to install new rebel rsr a arm bushings. Thinking of buying weltmiester tow hooks (tie down brackets)that bolt on with the a arm. Does any one know if this will work with the rebel bushings before i order the tow hooks. Thanks.

That's a good question that I wouldn't mind knowing myself. My stock tow hooks hang very low after installing on top of the Rebel front mounts with the optional added concentric washers to help things line up. I think one of two things would happen, by mounting the Welt tow hook and it spacing the Rebel mount the added 5mm? lower, you might actually improve the straight line alignment of the A-arm between the Rebel crossmember mount and the front one. Or.. the exact opposite might happen and you might struggle getting the concentric washers and a-arm with the front mount to line up with the rears.

I would first install the Rebel mounts but add a few washers equaling the thickness of the Welts between the concentric washers and the body and see how things line up. If it bolts up all nice with no stiction as per the Rebel instructions, then you know buying/adding the tow hooks won't adversely effect the bushings alignment.

Here's is mine when I first bolted it up with the stock hooks. I need to bend them flat to get some more clearance. What you can't see is the stack of washers between the body and the tow hook on the front bolt to compensate for the thicker Rebel mounts.

I had a set like your 'after' pic. my car is lowered as I used to run at DE.

was pulling into a drive once with a bit of a lip, caught that tow hook and folded it under. going very slow or it may have torn out the front bolt.

Thanks for the pics bft. Thats what ill do i guess. Cant mount it after the rsr bushing becuase itll be to low to the ground. Does anyone know any other tow hook vendors besides welt and renn$$$$.

Here is something which has worked fine for me: Using a large size ratchet tie down strap, with a large hook end, just clip it to where the small diagonal bar on the A arm meets the large torsion tube part. The clip on the hook won't snap closed, but that doesn't matter since you will have tightened it a lot when the rear is tied down. I've used this for years with my SC, with nary a problem. No cost, nothing to scrape. It is an easy reach under there and you just feel with a hand where to hook it. Mine have gotten to the point where, when unhooking, I just loosen the ratchet and pull some slack, shove the strap rearward and shake it some, and the hook falls off - I don't even have to get down on the trailer floor to unhook. Works on all the torsion bar front A arms, at least through 1989 anyway.
