Re-Check your installation of the switch, it may have failed some how or a loose contact, maybe ground.

Check the relays. If that doesn't work >>> Smash it with a hammer...

I don't think it's the steering column switch. Usually when that becomes faulty nothing works.
The relay is controlled by the steering column switch. If it's faulty inside (relay) that would explain them not switching off.

I'd double-check the switch installation first - but you can check the relay easily enough by swapping in a good one from another position- like the horn, which is usually lightly-used

Is your intermittent wiper switch turned off? There was a post here a few months ago where someone was hunting and hunting for a fix and then realized the intermittent wiper control was on.

I have also been experiencing this problem (windshield wipers won't stop) on my '87 Carrerra.
In March I had this show up and I assumed it was a problem within the wiper motor assembly since the self-park mechanism (switch) is built in to the wiper motor assembly. I took it out (a chore) and dismantled it. I didn't see anything wrong so I put it back together and reinstalled it. Voila, it was fixed. Yesterday, May 2, I drove to work in the rain and the problem returned. I really don't know what the problem is. I looked on the forum to see if anyone else had experience with this problem. Dutch |

Mystery electrical component and wires -74 911 My desktop mit scanner is on the fritz. Get one of the others on this thread to post the wiring diagram. Many of these ground connections are at/near the cigerette lighter. Best, Grady

Dutch (Outlaw_550),
Welcome to Pelican ![]() You will find a lot of help here. It may turn out that disassembling and cleaning the park contacts in the wiper assembly is the cure. The challenge is getting everything back as original. Lots of photos and writing down a step-by-step procedure will help you. Again, WELCOME. Best, Grady

update:
I removed the windshield wiper assembly last weekend. It worked as it should out of the car so I put it back in and it has been working. Still a mystery... Dutch |

Dutch,
Part of the issue is the (friction) load on the assembly. As the system wears, the position of the park switch changes relative to where you want the wipers to park. The ‘load’ and excess clearance then makes the switch repeat the park cycle endlessly (it doesn’t park). Cleaning the contacts is only the first step to correcting this issue. Eventually, the park contacts must move or the entire system updated to compensate for wear. Best, Grady

update: it does look like this is in the intermittent category. I drove in the rain yesterday and everything worked fine. I found a good deal on a replacement windshield wiper motor at Zim's so now I have a backup the next time it gives me a problem.
Thanks |

Just to bump an old thread - I've got a similar issue on my '87, but........it works fine with the ignition on (intermittent and the column switch), but when I start the car - the wipers run constantly.
As I said, it works as it should with the ignition switch in the on position (and parks) so I'm thinking it's not the park switch. My other thought was to check the grounds near the cigarette lighter (I cleaned the main ground point yesterday). Just wondered if anyone else had any input? I believe the switches are ok (as it works with the ignition on), but am stumped as to why it's different when the engine is running. Thanks Neil |
