Can you identify my dangly bits!

Hi all
I have been lucky enough to have inherited a 911sc 78 that has not run for 20 years, I managed to start it but it ran real ruff would not pull away and clouds of smoke, plus jumped out of first gear,
So started the accidental rebuild, dropped the engine n box to rebuild box thought I'll take a look at the heads found that the cylinder studs were snapped so off they come ,then you look at what's left and think now I'm here may as well spilt the case , all back in one bit and back in the car , no smoke
Gears seem fine but still will not pull away under load I'm guessing fuel air? Not looked at the injection and to me seems a bit of a black art .
One thing that's been bugging me all this time is What's this dangly bit just hanging there ?
Any ideas ?. Thanks bob

It almost looks like the sensor for auto-heat that would have resided in the side of the flapper box. But I could be mistaken.

I am sure greater minds will soon jump in.

That's what it looks like to me too.

I can't see well enough from your picture, what color are the wires? I have two wires on my 78 sc that are hanging by the flapper box too: 1 Green wire, 1 White wire. Both are wrapped together and go into the tunnel. This might solve both our mystery's!

Thanks guys so that's where I should stick the little sucker !
On this car the controller between the seats is broken also ,fixing this was a long way down my list
Is auto control worth it ? I was considering just trying something manual.

All I can say is that they look filthy, and should be severely punished or cleaned and replaced. Shame on you.

I would love to convert mine to manual. In the meantime, just put it back in the flapper box so it will be there when you need it.
