Anyone delete their A/C system?
Hi folks,
I'm starting to recollect the parts I need in order to reinstall the stock A/C system to my 81 targa. Everything on the front end is missing. Wondering if anyone has the parts under the hood (evaporator housing, freshair blower, the ductwork , etc). The evaoprator does not need to be good since I want to install a Griffith evap. Please PM me. Regards and Thanks |

You don't want old crap except for the interior controls. Go modern.....a/c in in a 911 sucked at best, there is a reason it was junked.

I have everthing I took out of my 78 SC 930 conversion, but cut the lines too. since mine and yours are SC, they should work. only thing I plan to keep are the little flapper units where the heat comes up from the rear to divert between foot well and windshield.
here is a pic of that and I'll keep those hoses too. what do you need? ![]()

To do it right will be a bit expensive but not crazy. First off I would suggest you contact Charlie Griffiths.
https://griffiths.com/porsche/air-conditioning/911-930/ He can get you a price estimate on the hardware like hoses and condensers and evaporators and of course the compressor. I would avoid used ones personally. You will need some used parts like the evaporator fan housing, and the front blower and the footwell parts and the switches. I would bet you spend 2 grand at least. In the end, you will have a kick butt system that will keep you cold on the hottest days.

Just one of those I didn't do my homework well when I bought the car. Was so exited about it and since it worked (slightly) I overlooked it.
The thing is the previous owner removed everything OEM under the hood and replaced it with a chinese universal blower/evaporator assembly. Kinda works but not on on hot days. Also it bugs the heck out of me that the smugglers lid does not close due to the routing of the ac lines. But got to admit they installed it to fool some....I was one... ![]() |

I'm a believer in Griffiths' Kuehl Wirbelsturm Evap Blower Motor (hurricane blower motor). In my unscientific study I swear it at least doubled my fan output.
Add one to your parts list.

I tried deleting my rear defroster but no matter how many times I hit the delete key it's still there.

The ability to drive in 100+ degree weather in total comfort is wonderful. Even 85 degrees and 85% humidity is miserable without AC. If you live in San Diego or Monterey AC is just not needed. I don't live there.
