What year/type is this 70ies 911 shell?
We are restoring this former 911 rally cross car to its former glory... The plan is to maintain as much of the racecar as possible, yet make it road legal.
It was first built in Germany in the seventies, and came to Denmark in 1979. Since then it ran a lot of races and was even Danish Champion back in 1986. It has a "race car" VIN-number. And the sheet metal for all "normal" 911-numbers is cut away due to the modifications done to it. (next tpo the gas tank and the radio...) So - the question is: What year/model is this body shell?? It must be 1974 - 1979, because it has impact bumpers and it was first raced in 1979. But - who can be more specific? We are not experts...yet. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Shock Towers
Just wondering why the rear shock towers weren't reinforced on a rally cross car? Are later bodies stronger in this area than the earlier models?

Not a 74 due to slant at the the most rearward section of rain gutter.

Isn't year of manufacture discernible from the VIN?

Yes, of course, but the OP doesn't know the original Porsche VIN. He said that all of the sheet metal containing the original numbers was cut away. The "race car" VIN is just an assigned number.

Is there any part of the lower dash sheet metal still there, under the black sheet metal that was added?
Can you post picture of the trunk? Behind the fuel tank on the left side of the car and also the inner sides, towards the front. JR |

The car has provenance. I would collect and compile the history of the car.
I would also be tempted to restore it to one of the configurations from it's history. The true value of this car is it's history. Granted it's not a LeMans history but it does have more history than the average 911. Even more value can be added if your rebuild it to the FIA rules. Richard Newton FIA Historic Rules |

It will be returned to its first livery and looks, with the 2,7 litre that was in it back then. The aim is to preserve as much as possible of the race-battle-scars, yet make it road legal...

My first thought was that it might have been a '75 or '76, but they have cut away so many details that would help identify it, I'm not sure I could help you without inspecting it in person. It does have some parts of an earleir car welded into the tub.
It may have been halfway well prepared early in it's life but whoever has worked on it since needs to be taken outside the back of the workshop and shot in the head, so they can't keep doing that to other cars. Personally, I'd throw that whole tub away. JR |

I think the only body parts left untouch is rear seat aera and Inside panel.
