I've done four in 16 years. The issue isn't street driving so much as the sand all around my local track, which is in the high-altititude desert. And track incidents. I lost one over the wall I hit at Laguna Seca, and another after a backwards-shooting off at Thunderhill.

Sand. I drove thru El Paso during one of their seasonal windy 'weeks' with a new shield.....looked like Carl Sagan's Universe after that episode. This was a Sekurit unit and I've heard they are 'soft'. No idea but it sure did not stand up to that blasting.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought it might have been due to track action.

Jack, your car is mostly a track car and you live in LA. That is not most 911 owners. I actually drive in rain and my car has seen zero degrees and sat in the sun in 100+ degree days. Leaks are a concern and I don't have any.

If I was on the track in sandy desert conditions that Chinese windshield would make sense. My needs are different. Price is always something to be concerned about, but I want the best piece of glass possible protecting my life. That is just me.

And no doubt you have the coolest 911 and garage of any "regular" working guy.

For what it's worth, a close friend of mine that I've known since high school owns an auto glass company in Phoenix that I get my windshields through, and he told me that most the name brand windshields, including PPG and Sigla, are now made in China. I bought mine through him at cost ($100) and did the install myself with a gasket I bought from Pelican. Fit fine, no problems.
