Lsd

What is the best way to find out if a transmission is LSD.

Transmission is not mounted in the car.

Thanks

I believe you turn one of the output flanges the other should turn the same direction. If the other turns opposite, it's not an lsd.

Or take off the side plate and look inside...

Remove flange bolt, remove flange, remove side plate, carefully hammer it off, examine differential.

Yep, with BOTH rear wheels OFF the floor, trans in neutral, and e-brake off, turn the right rear wheel. If the left rear wheel turns the same direction, you have LSD.

th spin the wheel test doesn't always work
one reason is the lsd is worn out and another is that the low pre-load used on some just doesn't act the way you would expect

The ZF 40% unit in my '76 works as described above, you can also feel it in tight turns at low speeds

The much more effective Porsche Motorsports 40/65 in my 993 is never felt at all under normal low speed operation but is far more effective at track speeds and loads, it can appear to be open w/ the casual casual wheel spin test.

one way to improve the test is to hold one wheel will spinning the other, this places a bit more load and the lsd resistance can usually be felt

for oe lsd look for the 12, this is a 915/73 from an '86 911 seril # 03454

As I mentioned motor and transmission are not mounted in the car . Motor is a 3.2 L

I spined the flange and they went opposite direction .
The vin number is not fully readable . I don't think it is an LSD.

Thanks to all who educated me on this topic .
