What is this box and what does it do?

Hi,
I am not an expert in mechanic. Can someone tell me what is the metallic box behind the oil filter? I know that it is connected to the oil reservoir. If you look closely it has a transparent tube in front of it that shows the oil level or something like that. I have external oil radiator in front of the front wheel.

Yeah. Rotate the photo 90º (or your monitor) CC for the correct orientation. That's why it's important to monitor the contents of any catch can. I assume it's vented to engine or atmosphere?

Yah, agreed someone made a nice custom catch can with a sight tube on the side as a gauge. Looks half full of oil & water vapor cocktail
