Talking 2.2 to 3.2 engine swap in a '70?

i am thinking about taking out my stock 2.2 (with zeniths) and 901 5-speed and putting in a stock 3.2 with webers. i'd like to keep the original engine/trans together and untouched and simply drop in a G50 and 3.2 with exception of taking off the FI and adding carbs so i don't have to screw with the original wiring. i want to keep the car's body and wiring stock so i can always put it back to factory original easily. does anyone have any tips, comments or instruction as to what problems or benefits i may incur? i know POWER and SPEED are my main goals! can the stock car handle a 3.2? the car has the S-brakes and factory konis... thanks all.

You can't put in a G50 without some very big modifications to your body and torsion tubes. A 3.2 is fine with a 915, and using the earlier box will save you about half the cost of what you're proposing.

My opinions:

The stock brakes and suspension will be fine, unless you get serious about autocross or D.E.s. Then you'll want new torsion bars (22/28) antiswaybars, Carrera-or-better brakes, and better shocks.

Unless your car is an E, an S, or a really stunningly-well-preserved car, it's not going to be worth a whole lot more with the original engine in it when it's time to get rid of it. I'd sell the 2.2 and the 901 to someone who's upgrading a 914 and use the proceeds to defray the costs of this project.

A 3.2 in an early car, with carbs, is a really potent combination. MMarsh on this board has a track-ready Euro-spec version of this, and it's awesome. RLJ on this board has a street-focused one that is amazingly well executed. Randy W has one that is a totally no-compromise version custome made for Solo II.

Check out the latest issue of Exellence. Randy Wells 72T/3.2 is in it and it's stunning.
