Broken throttle body ball stud. How do I fix?

I was a bit heavy handed while trying to pop the ball socket off the ball stud on the throttle body lever. The result is not pretty:

It seems I can't buy just the arm. I found a full TB on eBay for $150, but wow, that's one expensive mistake. I'm not sure I'm willing to pony up that much unless I give fixing it the old college try. Pelican sells the replacement ball socket, and I was thinking I could drill out the stud on the arm and put in a new ball stud.

Got some questions for the hive mind.

Are the ball studs 8mm? Where can I get one asap?

Where can I look for a replacement arm if replacing the ball stud wont work? Or am I stuck buying an entire Throttle Body?

Does anyone have an old TB they can sell me the arm/linkage off of?

What is the preferred method for popping these off? I did fine on the others, but this one of course snapped.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Ouch.

You want to pull straight out so the inner spring can compress and allow the ball to slip out. However, if rusted or filled with debris it makes it almost impossible to pull off.

As far as the fix, do you have access to a welder?

or Maybe you can grind the remaining stud off and tap a hole and use something like this:

Possibly- it's pretty tiny and I think it would never be quite right if welded.

Grind both sides flush and punch out the remains. Rob a ball from your stash of throttle bellcranks, grind the swage off and punch it out. Squeeze the ball into the lever in a vise and put a small weld on it. Probably need another socket piece too.

PM me your address.......

I have a box full of assorted CIS throttle bodies that I will never be able to use in my life time. Take care of the shipping cost and will send you a complete lever with the ball joint. Happy holidays.

No! No more breaking stuff! :-D

I just need to slow down. Getting antsy because I haven't driven in a few months -

A Bit nervous about getting it to run after changing up so much in the CIS. It's a good thing this online community is so helpful. Grateful for the collective knowledge here.

When that socket won't come off the ball, you can just unscrew the rod from the socket.

I wasn't aware of this mod, but it makes sense. In Bruce Anderson's Performance Handbook, he doesn't have any CIS upgrades. His mindset (and probably correct) was to scrap the CIS and throw on Webbers. I'd love to do that, but 1990 ITB pricing was probably more reasonable.

I would love to see a "Definitive CIS performance Upgrade Thread" I would start it, but I know nothing.

I've heard discussion of ROW Fuel distributors, larger intake runners (you must have larger ports in the head - slippery slope) and now a larger TB from the 3.0 onto the 2.7.

I would love to hear Al, John and Tony's thoughts on this - though I think they would say, don't bother, save up for PMOs!

Interesting that a $150 upgrade (3.0 TB) might give a bit of a performance boost on the breathless stock 2.7.

Duane,

Found a couple of '75 throttle bodies in my junk collection. Got the lever arm removed and ready for mailing. Do you need the ball receiver or ball linkage? I was on my way to the Post Office this afternoon but decided to ask you one more question. Other wise out it goes out tomorrow morning. Thanks.

If you can include the ball receiver that would be great. I ordered this one:
Ball Socket
Part #: 911-423-147-00-M100

But I'm not sure it will fit. Better to have the original part IMHO.

there really is not much you can do with the CIS that will help until you upgrade the engine.

ask tony if he has a 3.0 TB.
it should help at WOT.
