Mystery Piece popped out while removing window regulator

Hi guys,

While removing the passenger window regulator, this little piece popped out. I remember a thread where the same thing happened to the OP. I can't find that post. I guess I don't have e right search words. I also looked in the Porsche classic schematics. I can't see that piece anywhere!

That's the pivot. They can be purchased separately or you can reinstall it and drill and tap the end and use a small bolt and washer to keep it in place, but yours looks rather spread open and may have a crack there.

I seem to recall collecting that pivot piece from the bottom of my ps door years ago. The window still works ok. What is this part supposed to do?

There's one that goes in the center of the spring (left) and the one that goes on the end of the spring (right) Yours is from the end of the spring and I don't think theirs a part no for it. Their both referred to as spring pivot bolts And often their confused with eachother. I think your going to have to make, there's some threads on it here somewhere.

just to be ornery, I maintain that the pin in the center of the spring is the pivot (it rotates slightly - hence the name).
It can be purchased alone.

But the part you have is pressed/swaged into the regulator arm is is not available anywhere - it does not pivot and does not have its own part number.

Like others, I replaced it using some 1/4-20 hardware.
The original is shi++y pot metal and was bound to fail due to the shear force it sees.
It is not threaded like the real pivot.

It's funny how when you find one thread you find them all. I can't believe how many people have had the exact same question. I'll try the bolt / washer approach. I popped the old pin back in, it holds but looks like it's jonzing to rocket out.

Alright, here is my handy work. I hate opening up an assembly to find out that the previous owner jimmy rigged something instead of doing it properly but there's no way I'm dropping $400 on a new regulator!

I took a bolt, ground down the head so that the low profile would clear the assembly, I then put blue locktite before tightening the nut from the top. Finally, I cut the excess bolt. Voilą!

Do you guys see any potential problem with this? Comments?

Looks like a legit repair to me. It's going to be hidden in that door for another 30 years....

I did virtually the same repair as did Alex599 above (only I think I used red locktite, and I filled up the length of the bolt shaft with 3 or 4 nuts to provide an even surface on which the tail end of the circular spring could rest). Easier (for me) than welding a new pivot back into place on the regulator arm. Then you don't have to worry about buying the right pivot (parallel vs perpendicular). Just stick the bolt there and let the spring rest on it.

For clarification, it's the smaller "pivot" on the outer portion of the circular spring that broke off, not the one at the actual center of the spring.

Awesome, I am just a wee bit concerned, on your repair Alex is the hole bigger than the nut? Maybe my eyes are bad and I can't see it good.

I forget what the name of the nut type was that I used, but hopefully you can see it on my workbench circled. Wide to cover the hole and a nice low profile too (and I ditched using the green L bracket I made)

Dan, first off; optical illusion. The nut and head are bigger than the hole. I decided not to put washers for clearance issues.

Secondly, you have my dream car! I almost picked up a '89 Venetian blue Targa with white interior but it was just over my price range. I then picked up my '84 cab for exactly half the price. I always think back at that sweet Targa though!

my solution was a couple of parts from ACE hardware...a hex standoff, washers and a bolt.
