This really could be a stupid question- ignition wire holder
How do you feed the spark plug wires through this type of holder:
It's the three hole (fixed closed) type that plugs into the holes on top of heater ducts/fan shroud. Do I need to remove the boots on the plug wires? Thanks! http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search_2014.cgi?SUPERCAT_FLAG=Y&make=POR&Context_make=&please_wait=N&LastVisited_input=&Previous_Section=&forumid=&threadid=&make=POR&command=DWsearch&command=DWsearch&REFINE=Y&FORUM_REFER=&SUPERCAT_FLAG=Y&Previous_Section=&LastVisited_input=&make=POR&description=URO+ignition+holder&x=0&y=0 |

I'm certainly no expert but I believe the wires are put through the loops before the ends are crimped. Otherwise I see no way to fit them. Since I bought wires already made, I went with MSD holders on my car. They work well and look good if you are not a stickler for originality. Here's a picture of my engine right after I rebuilt it which shows the holders I used:

I ran into the same issue when I changed my wires. What I did was sliced them at about two o clock position. I then inserted the wire which have held very well.

Those holders were made to hold the original Beru wires which have screw-on connectors. If your wires are Beru, or another type with removable connectors, you can simply remove one connector and thread the wire through the holder. If not, follow emac's advice and make a small slice in the holder, it should work just as well.

Separators are a good practice, but..
The factory RSR race cars did not use them in 73, and more knowledgeable engine builders than me do not always use them so on my 73 that is now an RSR replica, neither will I. I think the older, crappier and wetter the plug wires are, the more important separators are.

Taping them together with electrical tape looks neat too.

I took a razor blade to the rubber plug wire holder to separate each wire. Slipped in new wires then superglued back together...Holding up 5 years later.
