What kind of lift is needed on the floor jack? I keep finding jacks with a max lift of 17-19 inches but seem to remember that we need something over 20 inches to do this correctly.

Since it doesn't seem all that difficult to get the engine out, my big question is, how difficult is it to get the engine and tranny back in?

I did it with a 18 inch jack without any problems. Had a home made dolly on it that raise it another inch.

You're right Joe.
A big jack with a higher than 19 in. max height is good to have for the "two floor jack" method. The big Craftsman jack (not the SUV thing) just barely works. Around a $100 I think. I have a sissy looking pink one made by Allied that works nice. Got it at Sam's Club of all places! Better than the Craftsman and I think around $70. I think the above two jacks go to about 21". Jacks certainly aren't something you should skimp on. The above prices seem way too cheap to me, but both of them are decent quality jacks so go figure. I'm sure i'll get naysayers about this piece of advice (always do). Take the rear bumper off and it'll save you having to use wood or whatever to get your jack up to the bottom of the motor. With the bumper and valance out of the way, you get an additional 6 in. of clearance at least! Sure it takes an extra 20 min. (more if your fasteners are stubborn) to yank the bumper. But it gives you a chance to clean up that pig of a bumper when you're done ![]() With the bumper off, I can roll my motor right out on the jack. Nothing between the jack and the motor but a 1 in. hunk of rubber for padding the saddle. Just my opinion, but I see alot of people lifting the car much higher than it needs to be lifted. I guess i'm just a chicken***** about lifting the car too high.

Ingo,
Where did you attach the hoist when raising the rear of the car? Your method looks interesting. Rick

Is it possible to drop a 930 engine without the tranny?
