What I've learned from machining and machinists at work, is you don't need really good drill bits, just make sure you use a good tapping fluid.
We drill through SS with jobber bits all the time. |

So you have no issues with Chinese made bits? That is what you appear to be implying.

The term "jobber" has to do with the length of a drill bit. Not the quality.

fastenall has good quality bits that are reasonable.
i do like Hanson hs bits the most, which are on most tool trucks |

What are you drilling?
For steel/Aluminum, for the most part I use bits from Harbor freight, buy and index set every couple years. Can but the common sizes in bulk, like 1/8" for pop rivets. Unibit for 'large' holes. Most people tend to drill too fast, and not use enough pressure. The bit should always be making a chip (or curl) When you drill too fast, the bit rides on top and just generates heat(gets dull) Wood, use spade or forstner bits. |
