Looking for information - Race engine/car/class

Hello - new to the forum and looking for some info and I guess advice. Have read a ton on here the last several weeks and what a great community. Anyway, I am new to vintage racing w/ 1972 911t that PO bodied as an RSR. BUT had a 2.7 7R case w/ Elgin 310/296 cams and JE 89mm pistons, twin plugged and stated 12.5/1 CR. Ran 11 years ago in PCA GT4 (log books included). My guess is, withough knowing all that much, the PO tried to build the engine up to replicate the RSR engine. If things go right, would like to eventually try to do some vintage events and PCA. I have taken the engine out, torn down, and am getting ready for a rebuild (thanks to Wayne and Bruce's books). All items are at the machine shop and will likely need to get a new set of pistons and rods (everything else should be ok after engine failure). Trying to determine which direction to go w/ rebuild - any thoughts or observations? Thanks

Welcome to the Pelican community! Glad that Wayne's books have been useful to you during this process. Don't forget to check out the free tech article library as well, linked below. I'm sure a few Pelicans will chime in with some useful advice for you during your build process. If you do have any parts or forum questions please do not hesitate to let me know. Enjoy your time here.

Welcome. Would love to see pics of your car and the engine in rebuild process. There is an engine rebuild forum as well where you can find tons of threads on various 2.7 builds. Sounds like you have a pretty awesome motor to start with. Another source is Bruce Anderson's Performance Handbook where he talks about various 2.7 builds with differences in street and track motors.
