Looks like the old "cut an engine grille" trick to me, and a nice solution I might add. :cool:

Yes, the vent/grill did come with the valance. It's actually a necessity as the valance has tabs that insert into it. It also has the mounts for the driving/fog lights. I also received a blanking plate for it (which I did not use) for use w/o an oil cooler.

My MA Shaw pices were marked with dimples at the factory mounting points. All that was required was to determine the type of fitting and drill the size hole I wanted to use. Truely bolt on w/o mods to the body. The pieces fit the body curves perfectly.
I also have the MA Shaw fiberglass hood. It took a total of 10 mintes to install and fit like the OEM metal hood. None of my MA Shaw pieces required ANY adiditonal work prior to paint. My car is black and the pieces lok like painted metal, not painted fiberglass. Another thing to note on the MA Shaw pieces is the edge work. The edges are curved to provide added strength. |
Here's a link about mikez's front bumper install. Sounds like he had to do some trimming and the fenders didn't quite line up just right. Can you comment on the work you had to perform, Mike?
SC/RS front bumper install Paul, sounds like you really like the MA Shaw parts. I noticed one thread where Olsen really praised the fit of Rennspeed's front bumpers. I'm just rehasing what I've read in the archives. I know products from either vendor would be pretty good. Jurgen |
I have talked wih 5 shops both locally and out of town about the YB set up front and back. Every shop recommends the Shaw pieces for quality and fit...both of which save us money in the long run. I mailed Shaw a check this morning for my set. Both pieces will be here next week. I have a Ruf lip and a old grill to cut up to cover the oil cooler hole until it is in. I am also leaving off my fog lights and ducting the new 930 brakes. I'll post before and after pictures if any one is interested when Mark @ Eurotech gets done with the painting.

You will need a second grill for the fog openings. Though I s'pose you could leave them open

The plan at the moment is to vent the brakes to the fog light holes....if that won't work and come out clean, I'll put the fogs in them.

GROUP BUY
It has been a busy week, and it is not yet finalized! I will receive final information early next week. So those of you who are in the group (17-18 now I think) need to decide by the middle of next week. I have updated the Bat Cave with the latest infomation, so check it out.
On thing that I have learned this past couple of weeks is that the companies that are still in business making these parts are making good parts. There is little variation in the quality from what I can judge after my my conversation with the producers/venders and from the feedback of Pelicanites that have purchased parts. If you think you will get a part and bolt it on in a few hours, think again. Read the threads of others who have installed the parts. I went after parts the were reported to have good quality. I also wanted parts that will only require fitting and drilling. Prep and paint is a given. I will do my own prep work and may have someone shoot it for me. But then again, it'll be a good time to buy a paint gun and put my monster (to me) compressor to good use. And it'll be a good primer for my big paint job (the whole car) this summer. I expect to do work on my parts, because no matter whose part I buy, it'll never be good enough. I'll post a thread or webpage when I get my parts to document the installation process. I will post another page to give a more candid opinion of the parts (sight unseen :) ). I tried to limit (tough for me to do) judgement on the infomational page, but on the "decisions" page I will share my honest opinion (much easier to do) so those of you on the fence might tip and fall on my side ;) Thanks all for your interest in the group buy. Souk, from what I've read about the MA Shaw parts, many guys are lucky enough to simply drill and bolt on the parts. I don't mind the paintwork and prepwork, but I'd be bummed if I had to pop open the can of resin and do some patchwork. I don't have much experience with fiberglass work, but if it is anything like body work, those hours add up REAL fast. I'm not accusing the Rennspeed parts of being subpar. I am still undecided, but I definitely want to take advantage of this group buy.
What about the other 15+ guys who are interested in the group buy? Any opinions whatsoever??? Jurgen |

I am not endorsing one vendor over the other, but I will give my analysis of the variuos vendors from my conversation with them. Also, there are tidbits that I did not reveal on the info page for fear of lashback. When the final info is in I will be sending out an e-mail. One thing that I want to say is that the group buy is to benefit us in the group and the producers/venders. Unless we have a good size group for each vendor it may not be so good for us or the vendors. As it is, there are over 15 guys who expressed interest and who are likely to buy, so even if we split the group, it will be good still. The prices are great from all vendors, and a single buyer will not likely to get those prices. So we have done good already. I just don't want to affect the vendor's future business, nor the ability of other group buys. If this goes sour, other equipment vendors will not want to deal with us (Pelicanites). Although there is a slim chance of that, but my name and reputation is attached to this deal, and I sure a hell would like to maintain some respectability. I'll report as soon as I have more information. Thanks all for your interest. |
Agreed, Souk. No hard feelings whatsoever. I want to make the best decision to fit my needs and wants, but at the same time respect the desires and wishes of the group as a whole.
I have never installed fiberglass parts from any of the Porsche retailers, so my sole influence is the advice and opinion of those who've been there already. Lastly, I have organized half a dozen group buys in the past with a net dollar value well into 5 figures, so I know what you're going through. Thanks a lot for your hard work. Jurgen |

I know Souk has been working on the group buy thing, but does anyone know if any of the potential vendors offer the rear bumper with the additional horizontal louvers like in Erics' picture?

Has anyone got into a front end collision with one of these new f/g bumpers? Are there safety issues to consider here?

The converse to that question...does the stock bumper provide a reasonable measure of safety? I view most bumpers as simple 5mph protection, but I'm not sure if that applies to the Porsche bumpers. I bet a foam-filled fiberglass shell would provide pretty good impact protection, but that's just my opinion.

Well, if you are ever in an accident, that involves speeds greater than 5MPH, chances are, your bumper (stock or fg), fenders and hood all have a chance of getting damaged. Same goes for the rear parts.
If you want the air shock protection of the stock bumper, you can get one of our potential suppliers to fab you a setup for the rear using the pneumatic shocks from the front of your car. If you hit some with your front, well, then you are at fault...so it will seem to most officers that shows up at the scene. Fact is, if you want protection you can build one into the conversion. You don't need an engineering degree to build it, just some determination. But if you need an engineer, my rate is $125/hr plus travel and lodging. :) As for the slots in the rear, I'll ask. |

Err, Slider, if I wasn't commited to buying the conversion parts, I would go and get that yellow car.... :) Maybe the folks in the group buy will all pitch in, and we can do a time share on the real RUF Yellowbird. How about it guys?

Bill V has BW Motorsports' Yellowbird parts. I know it will be a pain (10 pages!), but look this thread over again, you will find pictures of his car. If you are looking for more detailed pictures, I think you (we are out of luck).

a quick question:
after looking over the thread it seems that some of the cars (the lime green one is the first to come to mind) have brake duct openenings that are smaller than the fog light opening. one of the cars has two rounds openening which i think deviates too far from the look, but that lime one has smaller square openings. is that a custom fitment on the standard YB bumper? david (I want the bumpers too, but i'll have to wait till summertime) |
I'm leaning toward MA SHAW or BW Motorsports b/c of "perfect fit" either would be nice...it seems the BWM may be a "safer" choice b/c of the bumper shocks...but right now I'm game for either of the ones above...I need to see a picture of the BWM's b/f I decide though...could anyone post a picture of these?
