Just like this...NOS RUF CTR Flares to accommodate 10 x 17's

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...9/SAM_1141.jpg

THIS is the exact flare look I want. I feel I have the skills to do the
fiberglass work on the rear bumper. Its the metal work I would need
the most help with. I wish someone would make the 1" strip to be
welded in. That would make the process much better. Do you think
the guy who did yours would be willing to cut and shape the metal
for me so I can take them to a shop and have it done? Or could you
ask him for me?

Thanks for your photo's they show just what I am up against.

Have a great week
Scott

Am I missing something, or why has it been that no 911 Yellowbird replicas have actually made the rear fender air scoop (NACA duct) like the original above that did compete in the infamous Road & Track magazine shootout that made it famous in the first place!!!

I mean, I see these guys going all out in replacing the front and rear bumpers with so much effort, and then adding the Ruf wheels, and calling it a replica but in my mind, not really. Especially when obvious details are lacking such as the 935 mirrors, correct tail, or even adequate engine work is supposed to be undertaken...

I can't be the only one who thinks this way, or am I?

My project is far from yours, it was already so difficult to get gutter shaved !
here is my "small" CTR conversion project..

Rear bumper with louvers and proper 3.2 l motor hood will be changed as soon I get it back from painting workshop.

That's is really sweet. I like it.
Thank - you for sharing.

I agree getting the drip rails correct, is not for the faint of heart. Very tedious and time consuming.

Hi Jean-Michel, nice work!

Did you do the drip rails delete yourself? If a shop did it for you, could you please tell me which one? (I live in Carcassonne, not very far from Bouche du Rhône).

Also, where did you source the front and rear caps from?

Lastly, I have a Carrera tail for sale if you wish. It is blue but in perfect condition.

Bill,

Sorry, but I gotta disagree. I have done the CTR setup and it is costly and a LOT more work than I expected. The CTR flare is only 1", correct. But the flare extends down all the way around with a very different lower level and requires a substantially modified [or Ruf $$$] rocker as well as a different rear bumper to fit correctly.

You can do a simple weld up to approximate the old factory 9" flare but if you are trying to attain a correct Ruf look it is a lot more work.

Good luck.. money will flow like water to get it right!

JohnR

I don't understand what you disagree w/, I made no reference to cost or how the flare integrates w/ the rest of the body.

The fact is the rear Ruf flare is an inch wider than SC/Carrera and an inch narrower than a 930

the SC is usually called a 9" flare because it comfortably accommodates a 9" wheel
the Ruf comfortably accommodates a 10" wheel
the 930 comfortably accommodates an 11" wheel

though you can squeeze in larger wheels if you work at it and accordingly plan your wheel/tire purchases

I must admit, the 911 does look better without the rain gutters. Very nice. Do you find that without the gutters it is quieter at higher speeds.

Hi, Scott : Thank-you for your kind words.

While on the hunt for RUF parts (the last 3 years), I stumbled upon, some original RUF CTR (Yellow Bird) Flares. That's what's on my car.

Before I found them, I was on the same quest, of customizing some flares. You might contact Slider79SC He fabricated these (see image)

Thanks Pete, no I don't know if it is quieter because I didn't ride it with gutter, I had have to restore everything on this wreck lining in a field during 4 years, it took 10 years to me to restore it and it was an opportunity to shave gutters.

My red ruf conversion

I am still working on my 74 conversion, I'm going to call it a 70s, 80s, 90 because it has parts from all those years, in fact about the only 74 parts left are the unit body and the door frames and glass and the quarter windows and frames. Anyway, it will be ready to drive in the spring, and I am really looking forward getting the salt off of the streets.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1357157134.jpg

So there might be some interest in these bumpers. If there is enough interest I might be able to work up another run of these. (Assuming Wayne doesn't have heart burn with us talking about it here)

Who's interested?
