hi, sorry if it has been posted earlier in this thread...it is a long one.. has anyone seen a version of this rear bumper conversion, made to suit a narrow bodied car....I have a 1977 911S, i would like to convert the bumpers, but am not keen on cutting out the rear wheel arches. Thanks if anyone can elaborate. Tony;) |

technically, I could buy the rear bumper I see in the photo above, and alter it (by reducing its width, feddling it....) to suit, and viola!!!.....a ruf rear bumper for a narrow body 911. This solves a dilemma for me actually..as I want to alter my 77 911s to clean up the front and rear bumper design to something akin to what RUF did, but I don't want to do work that can't be undone (i.e. widen the rear)..... I suspect the result will look 964ish, which isn't bad. and when i want to change it back, should be no problem. excellent....think I will have a beer. cheers :) |
btw, beautiful car, Turbo1987

I found this thread invaluable, so I thought I'd add my own contribution. I've just put MA Shaw Ruf bumpers on my old girl - here's how it turned out:
http://www.methodandclass.com/mybits...d/P1040919.jpg (Door slightly ajar, not crappy shut lines!) http://www.methodandclass.com/mybits...d/P1040918.jpg http://www.methodandclass.com/mybits...d/P1040920.jpg http://www.methodandclass.com/mybits...d/P1040921.jpg http://www.methodandclass.com/mybits...d/P1040922.jpg I don't actually dislike the normal impact bumpers, so I wasn't too sure about the front bumper, but I quite like it now it's on. http://www.methodandclass.com/mybits...d/P1040923.jpg http://www.methodandclass.com/mybits...d/P1040924.jpg http://www.methodandclass.com/mybits...d/P1040925.jpg The worst part of the process was bolting up the front bumper to the wings, particularly on the oil cooler side. It's a sod getting your hands up there, past the horn trumpets, to get the spanner on the nuts. I tried to use rivnuts, but it was tricky getting them to line up perfectly with the bolts and the rivnuts ended up spinning, rendering them useless. So I drilled them out (be careful not to go through the top of the wing!) and just used short allen head cap bolts. Looks pretty good in the metal/plastic though. Just need a 300 bhp 3 litre screamer in the back now! |
Absolutely beautiful.
My carrera 3.0 will look like that, when I am done. What color is it? Mine used to be oak green, I think. Will be going back to original color and Ruf Bumpers Maybe even a Duck tail. |
Mine is Moss Green. I think it's slightly lighter than Oak Green. Looks nice in direct sunlight, looks almost black otherwise.

Looks awesome Northy.

Very nice Northy! Great work.

How did you get the slots in the rear?
|
The bumpers were second hand and the slots had already been cut. As I understand it, they had been done by hand by the PO.

Sorry if this has been asked, I haven't yet had the time to read all 50 some odd pages.
Does anyone make rear flares. I know they aren't a huge difference over the stock. I would like them bit wider but not as wide as a turbo car. Cheers, Scott |

SC/Carrera are 9" Ruf are 10" 930 are 11" |
Thanks for that Bill.

Bill,
Sorry, but I gotta disagree. I have done the CTR setup and it is costly and a LOT more work than I expected. The CTR flare is only 1", correct. But the flare extends down all the way around with a very different lower level and requires a substantially modified [or Ruf $$$] rocker as well as a different rear bumper to fit correctly. You can do a simple weld up to approximate the old factory 9" flare but if you are trying to attain a correct Ruf look it is a lot more work. Good luck.. money will flow like water to get it right!
