My RSR Build

I've been on the Ferrarichat forum for 10 years in the 246 Dino section. I've done a number of Ferrari Dino restorations as that is my favorite car next to a Porsche RSR. I became inspired when I saw Dave's beautiful orange RSR tribute and decided then and there to start my own project. It's a tribute and NO way am I trying to build a clone. I just want a fun street car. I started posting on another site but it seems there is way more interest on this site for these type of builds. Over the next few days I'll update my work thats taken place over the last 2 months. I started by buying 2 73 911T's as I figured doing 2 at the same time would be more educational than one. It's kind of learn as I go which is what I did with the Ferrari Dinos, 10 years ago. Here are some pictures of the first one. It was originally gold.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491778258.JPG

I stripped it to nothing and then removed all the undercoating. That job was a PITA, but in a week after going through lots of braided wire wheels, and a few Harbor Freight throw away grinders and the torch they were clean enough to send them to get media blasted.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491778726.JPG

We all love a good RSR tribute but did ya HAVE to build one out of a nice looking long hood? :D

Fill us in on the rest of the details! Engine? Suspension & brake plans? Color?

omgjon 04-09-2017 08:05 PM

Well I figured why not do it with the real thing rather than backdating a newer car. Color is open, I really like viper green, and gulf blue but may try something more unique. 939 brakes and trailing arms, 15 inch wheels and 350 horesepower.

rbogh901 04-09-2017 08:20 PM

Cool. Looks like you have the resources for it.

Do you mean 993? What motor are you planning?

omgjon 04-09-2017 09:58 PM

sorry, 930 trailing arms. The Motor is going to be a 3.5 from Gamroth racing.

Following in anticipation.

Looks great so far! So you're building two cars?

When i met him he said 6 Months, but you know how things go!! I'm building 2 cars at the same time I figured it would be more effecient and a better learning process.

AHudson 04-10-2017 02:30 PM

Hi Jon, remembered being inspired by your Dino work on Fchat (AHudson there also, with a BB512). What outstanding work you do, loving the immaculate workspace too.

The 911s are such fun, tight, agile, well built cars. Built with a purpose, on purpose. Looking forward to watching this (these!) build(s) progress.

Fair enough :D

No doubt you'll do them right (judging by the pics).

I've always driven Porsches because I can afford them (barely) and they're beautiful awesome cars, but I'm a Ferrari man at heart.

omgjon 04-10-2017 08:05 PM

More body work today, filling holes, filling battery boxes, fuel door delete etc. My aluminum front hood came today and looks like really good quality. Put the fuel tank in to cut the hole in the trunk lid tomorrow.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1491883471.JPG

Wow, such great facilities! And the cars look pretty cool too! ; ) Colors? (please don't say Mexico Blue : ).

I think he mentioned leaning toward viper green, or gulf blue.

Is this all in real time? Or are these pics from work that HAS been done and you're gradually bringing us up to current? If this is going on real time I hate you in the nicest way possible!! :D

Haven't decided on colors, I would like to do something unique.

I've no fear you'd choose anything but! Given the build quality, the color is just going to ice it. I realize that we both have blue and green weaknesses, but of late I've been oddly attracted to some of the 'drab' or pedestrian tones like

Sahara beige
Toronado gold
Linen gray
Steel blue (yes, in 'blue' family but gray to some)
Buttermint green

Evoking vintage 356 (non metallics) or even something that'd fit an FJ40 LandCruiser. Either way, this is the fun part, a few months down the road!

Keep up the awesome work!

I got my door handles back from Jim Simpson, I think they look awesome! Working on the rear bumper flares, decided not to use a one piece fiberglass instead rework the stock bumper ends. Car #2 came back from the blaster and we are slicing and dicing already.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1492060852.JPG
