Elgin Super C-2

Has anyone used the Elgin Super C-2 on a 3 ltr CIS engine. It is supposed to be a little hotter than the 964 cam. I've been told that it has added about 30 hp to one with euro piston and ssi. Seems a bit high. Any problems with valve clearance or CIS compatability. Elgin says no but would like to get feedback to make sure.

If Elgin says your valves won't hit the pistons they probably will not, I am sure they left a pretty good margin of error. Never trust a cam or piston maker with valve clearance though. An easy way to check is to install your cams and get #1 set up to about 30 BTDC on the overlap stroke. Turn the valve adjust screw in 1 turn and see if you have interference as you turn it till about 30 ATDC. If not back the engine up and turn it in another turn. Each screw turn is 1mm. If you get to 3mm you are fine for sure. You can probably run it as close as 1.5mm. I have checked this method against the clay method and the solder method and found it to be at least as accurate, but it does not tell you where the interference is like clay will.

If the cam does not give you enough clearance I am sure Elgin will fix it. Getting it done fast is another issue.
