brake fluid reservoir redesign for targa's

Has anyone redesigned the brake fluid reservoir so that it does not interfere with the targa top when stowed unfolded? It seems a rubber bag would work? Or a small cylinder?

I thought the brake booster was the issue with putting the top in there unfolded?

The reservoir is on top of the booster. I guess I'll have to remove the reservoir and see if it fits.

With the air plenum cover removed and the brake reservoir moved over, the Targa top fits perfectly with out folding at all. Pictures to follow. The air plenum cover will have to be redesigned slightly.
The brake booster itself is not in the way at all.

Pictures of Targa top stowed

Obviously the reservoir location will have to be permanently moved once I get some more tubing.

Behind the front seats works well if you wish not to fold the top.

Very interesting Craig,

Could you just fab a bracket out of a length of metal that bolts to the original location and goes towards the driver side a few inches and then bolt the original bracket to it?

Now that I know it fits, I'll design a new mount slightly outboard as you suggest, will post a pic in a day or two. My black lab doesn't fit in the back seat along with the top ergo the new design.

On my '75 Targa, the factory hard-top fits in the frunk (with the spare tire intact). Of course, I've got manual brakes (no booster) and the reservoir is located on the driver's side inner fender, between the fuse box and the hood hinge. Fluid is fed by way of hoses/tubes to the master cylinder.

Perhaps this same mounting scheme may be applicable to new Targa's: Leave the booster/master cylinder in place, relocate the reservoir to the side, run hoses from the reservoir to the master cylinder.

Here is a picture of the reservoir moved a few inches outboard. I just modified the existing mount and ran new brake lines to the cylinder. The trunk padding seems sufficient to protect the top from the latch etc.

looks like you have to remove the cardboard firewall piece that protects the Bowden cables. I would definitely tape over the tabs where it attached in order to not catch the roof on them.

Agree, I'm going to modify that cardboard piece to protect the cables and guard against snags. Will probably make a new piece and preserve the original just in case...........
