I have a 1983-911SC and I recently purchased a OEM Carrera tail from a guy on E-Bay,I expect it to be delivered next week.I know I have to drill holes in my existing lid but how do you line it up to mark for the holes? Are there any existing holes in the lid that are utilized? Is there a template you can make?I want to drill the holes in the correct location the first time!! Is there a set distance from the top it should be located?Any advice would be appreciated. And yes the car has a AC condensor mounted on the lid if that matters. Thanks

I did this last year. The top part of the tail will mount with three bolts to the existing holes in the top of the opening once the grill is removed. You can then reach through and mark the bottom holes when you have it lined up. It will have to be mostly lined up "by eye", but it isn't hard. There is a gasket that goes between the tail and the lid. That should be glued to the tail base first.
Also, get something to seal the holes that you drill, so there is no exposed, bare metal. Take plenty of pics! Good luck, Magilla |

Another option would be to source out a second decklid for the tail. You should be able to find one for less than $200. I would especially recommend doing so if your car still has it's original paint. Not to mention, if you find one that previously had a Carrera tail (plenty out there), you wont have to do any drilling or aligning! That way, you can always return the car back to stock if you should ever choose to do so.
