Question on replacing the rear parcel shelf and how to handle the trunk would mount
Good morning-hoping to get some coaching on how to handle the brackets that locate the engine decklid to have the top shelf underneath the rear window.
Did you grind the metal off the brackets and then drill holes to spot weld them back in place?

What are you doing that requires removal of the brackets?? If you're just removing the deck lid the brackets unbolt at the hinge point.

Banned but not out, yet..

Reading between the lines, he has to remove/ replace the rear parcel shelf and he wants to know the best way to remove the engine lid brackets (i.e. Use an angle grinder). Then he wants to know the best way to reattach the brackets to the new shelf (drill the brackets and spot weld).
Thank god I got my GED.

Thanks gentlemen-apologize if it's not clear, but Rick has it exactly right. I have a replacement rear parcel shelf that the engine deck lid struts attached to with under mounted brackets. I am looking for coaching on how best to get the brackets re-installed on the new metal.
I suppose I could just cut all of the related metal out and then try to measure and reattach, but my guess is that someone here has found a more clever way of doing it .

Ok now I get it - takes me a bit longer with only a third grade worth of skool.....
To install the brackets, take measurements from a common reference point. Locate the brackets on the new shelf and attach with a couple of spot welds, then test fit everything. Once you're comfortable with the fitment complete the spot welding process.
