NEED A/C HELP....911SC Temp switch...bad??
I just replaced my dash A/C temp switch due to a broken capillary tube. The replacement unit is a little larger (no biggie) but the new switch does not seem to have the clutch on/off "click" to disengage the A/C clutch.
Turning on the blower via the blower switch automatically engages the A/C clutch regardless of the temp switch dial location. With the old switch, I was able to turn off the A/C clutch via the temp switch and just use the blower to recirculate cabin air. Is this a bad switch or since the replacement redesign this function no longer available? |

I just purchased a new temp switch myself but I did not have an old switch to compare the new one to as all of the original AC parts were removed. I am replacing everything. If your new switch doesn't have the "click" at the low temp side then I would say it is not an exact replacement. You may have to live with it that way or add a small switch to duplicate the original switch function. Shouldn't be too hard and then you can use the blower fan without comp activation. I may have to do this mod as I just installed my new switch the other night but have not had a chance to get the compressor installed yet.

Rotating the temp switch full CW & CCW should activate/de-activate the compressor. I would have a look at the two wires behind the switch. A shorted switch will keep the compressor on at all times, and cause evaporator freeze-up. pm me as needed. Gerry

I think a way to troubleshoot the switch would be to pull out the end of the capillary tube in the evaporator coil and stick it in a glass of ice water. If you turn on the switch the clutch should disengage.
