clicking noise while accelerating
OK Pelicanheads, I just replaced both left and right axle assemblies thinking for sure that the clicking noise were worn CV joints. Well now at least I have brand new axle assemblies but I also still have the clicking noise. It seems with greater torque (from a standstill at a stoplight) it is more pronounced but punching it in 3rd can also make it happen. Cruising along at a constant speed and there's no noise. Now what else can possibly be making this noise? A little back history; I have been living without 1st gear for years now. I know, I need to get my trans rebuilt and a new clutch as well. Could it be related to that? Thanks, Harry

I think you just answered your own question.
had a bad syncro for 3rd in my 77s, drove it for 10yrs like that. had a bad tranny in my 88 325is for several months, yes months. had no 5th and made god awful noises when starting off but was still loud at steady speed. when removed it had no oil and NO front bearing. (had just bought the car 6 months before)
