Yea, looks like you are in need of a regulator.

It doesn't have an "updated" Valeo alternator with internal regulator, does it? When I bought a new alternator for my '75, the old regulator was no longer used as the alternator was internally regulated like later cars.

The taped up Black could indicate an internal VR alternator was installed.
Only way to know for sure is to pull the alternator...
Blue is D+, Brown is D-, Black is DF.

This car has sat torn apart for the last 10 years and the owner passed away during that time.. I wish I knew what he did. I have run out of time on this project as the current owner just doesn't have the funds to pay me to do this. He may have to take on some of these projects

Sounds like the owner needs to get a Bentley or another manual, learn how to pull the alternator, and have it checked out. I never have understood how an internally regulated voltage regulator was desirable on a 911 since the external one is so easy to change if it goes south.

On an American V8 with an easily accessible alternator, it's a different situation. On my 914-6s, it's even worse to swap out the alternator!
