Question Question about early 911 window frames

I have a 1973 911T. The headlights, window frames and trim pieces look like chrome but are too light to be that. What are they? Pollished aluminium, Anodized.....?

I "think" they are stainless steel.

I've heard that some frames are chrome over brass, and that others are aluminum. The latter are supposed to be too flimsy to work well for a long time.

Except the headlights (one of mine is cracked!). And on targas the vent window might be chrome over brass (read it in a book).

Chrome Looking window frames

My 1971 window frames are alloy. From the factory they were first polished and then bright dipped as stated above.

My head light trim rings for the H-1's are hand made from brass.

My 73 was hit on the door and the frame was bent and cracked. It was plated brass no mistake about that, same as the early Cobra windshield frames.
PS I think the frames were changed out to earlier 60's prior to this, so they may not be the same as the 73 production.

I'd like to know the answer to this, too. The PO painted my frames black, and I would love to refinish them in the brushed aluminum finish of the 912R in this month's 'Excellence'. Not going to work too well if they are brass...(73T)

Up until the '68 model year, the door window frames were chrome on brass - after that they changed to bright anodised aluminium.

If the frame is off the car you can just weigh it -- the brass is a lot heavier than the Al. Other wise maybe you can find a concealed area to drill into or scratch.
