Whah so Bosch silver coil has a 100% failure rate. At least they got that right.

Don't bother. Bosch could not care less.

What you could do is the following:

Take the silver coil. Go to a Bosch office near you. Throw it at the first employee that wears a Bosch badge. Success guarantueed. Post on Youtube.

This would a good time to get your control fuel pressure data. BTW, you have not shared with us the Bosch ID number of the WUR. From a cold engine, measure your cold control fuel pressure until the warm control pressure stabilized. The duration of the test should last about 5 mins. plus. Stop the test once the WCP is steady and not changing. Keep us posted.

Tony my apologies - I did promise you that. I'll burrow into the engine bay and get you the serial number tomorrow.

I assume the number I am looking for is the stamped three digit number starting in 0?

Reason for failure is internal voids (bubbles) in the epoxy insulation that they are filled with. If the void happens to coincide with the coil wire then it will arc internally and destroy itself (and possibly the CDI box as well).

(And yes, we have cut one in half to discover this!)

Kris,

Your engine should have a WUR-045. WUR-089 is for a ROW/Euro spec. They are not the same but would work.

Jonny are the coils you sell compatible with the old CDI box or your CDI box only?

I have heard good things about them, but those who have one are running it off your product.

Cheers, Kris

I can say it is plumbed into the system properly.

How many bars should I be looking at with the cold control pressure test?

Cheers, Kris

So gentlemen I know it has been some time, but I have finally been back in Australia and able to take my car to my preferred mechanic. The issue was quickly resolved - The CDI box was the culprit. Annoyingly as I sent the box the Pelican Parts to be fixed, it evidently had a dry joint in one of the soldered wires which either occurred during the repair or was missed. Like most I dismissed the idea that a rebuilt component could still have a fault. Lesson learnt This issue would only surface once engine bay heat soak in Australian temperature conditions set in. To confirm the fuel injection system has no vacuum leaks. The remedy for the situation was to put an MSD ignition system in. Gentlemen thank you for your input into this issue. It really does demonstrate the strength of forums such as this.
