Need to replace dog teeth...

I am replacing the dog teeth 1-4 with new ones from Pelican, but I do not have the special tools to remove the old ones.
Does anyone know of a shop in the Atlanta area that could do this for me? Preferably near Marietta.
Alternatively I could beg, borrow, or rent the tools from a Pelican.
I have a hard deadline as I need to move out of my rental house by November 22 and the transmission is still apart, and I am remodeling the house I am moving into.
Any suggestion would help.

Carefully cut the teeth off with a cutoff wheel. When you get close to deep enough, open the cut the rest of the way with a cold blunt chisel. Do at least a few cuts. The ring is an interference/press fit on the gear nubs, so it should pop apart when you give it a good strike with the chisel, so long as you've weakened the ring enough with the cuts to make it break

To install the new dog teeth, heat the teeth in a toaster oven (300F) and cool the gear in the freezer for several hours to ensure it shrinks as much as reasonably possible. The teeth will drop right on to the gear. Have something handy to pop the ring a few times if it doesn't drop all the way flush with the gear. A rubber mallet works good.

The gear and teeth will rust almost instantly. So have some WD40 or whatever handy to coat the gear after it's cooled off for a few minutes.

Just a piece of info I am throwing out here. I had my trans rebuilt by a well known shop 10 years ago.

Works well except sometimes it balks going into third. I was told it would balk for several hundred miles but it still does a touch.

I think it has to do with some kind of a back cut or filing on the teeth of something or other. Either the synchro or the dog teeth.

I have an e-mail from Matt Monson explaining the issue. Let me find it.

If it's something you can do before install on any new parts that this may be applicable to, now is the time.

Sorry so cryptic. I think his e-mail will explain it better. May not even be applicable.

Stay tuned.

Galen Bridges is in Marietta. Jack Lewis is in Norcross.

You don't need to worry about the backcut if you got them from Pelican and they are R&S brand. Since they first started making them they started adding the backcut. The information I provided to Bob is no longer important unless you buy the German OEM marked ones.

It is prudent to check the diameter of the newly installed synchro ring. Five or six years ago I had a dog tooth bought from our host that did not have the back cut, FWIW. Good thing I checked. If it maters, PN 10-1550-316-M184.

At that time I replaced several dog teeth, both on my trans and another I helped rebuild. Even after heating the dog teeth I still needed to use my press to seat them on the gear. YMMV.

Thanks for the replies

Here is what I got:

Manual Trans Gear Teeth
Brand: OE Supplier Note: 3rd-5th Gear, Engine Type: 3.2L 3163cc H6 (3.74x2.93; 95.0x74.4) (1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible)
Part #: 901-302-242-03-INT $99.25 2 $198.50

Gear Teeth (symmetrical teeth)
Brand: German Note: 2nd Gear (1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible)
Part #: 10-1550-316-M127 $116.75 1 $116.75

Gear Teeth (1st Gear) (asymmetrical teeth)
Brand: German Note: (1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible)
Part #: 10-1550-312-M127 $116.75 1 $116.75

So it appears that 1st and 2nd gears are German, while 3rd and 4th are OE Supplier (not sure what this means).
Which ones do I have to worry about having to file a back cut?

Those don't have the back cut. Rausch and Spiegle are the ones who have added the back cut in the last year or so.

If you are willing to ship your stuff out, Jerry Austin offers a service to install and cut them. I think his username is imsa84

Buy the tools, use them, and resell them when you are done. Don't mess with the carefully cutting the xxx stuff, especially when you are pressed for time.

Thanks Matt, that's a relief!
I did a search for Galen Bridges in Marietta but nothing came up...

Thank you Kevin.
I send him an email, but his last activity on this forum was a year ago. Fingers crossed since he is not far from me.

Keep in mind most of these guys are at PCA Daytona this weekend. Might not be back in their shops by Monday.

Great referral Jack. I called them this morning and then dropped my parts to them. I should have them back by tomorrow.
I dealt with Steve, a nice guy.

Next steps will be to put the transmission back together with the jig (thank you Brother Jim for the loan) and check the selector forks positions before final reassembly.
It is a bit of a race against the clock as I need to be out of our rental home in 3 weeks.
