With Headers, What happens to heat flapper boxes?

I am looking to improve the sound on my 84 3.2 that I just got. I ordered Bursch headers from Pelican and M&K Track mufflers, that I may return after hearing them in various sound clips.

I may opt for a 2 in 2 out sport muffler.

My question is, what happens to the heat flapper boxes once the heat exchangers are removed and headers are installed? Is there a negative consequences by doing this? Does anyone have pictures of what they did to their cars are headers were installed?

Sorry to be naive but looking to learn!

haha no problem, so remove the ducting from the heat exchanger to the flapper box, flapper box just sits there by itself?

no need to cap it off or put some kind of shield so it doesn't pickup debris from the road?

I suppose you could cap them, but the inner valve seals them off. A Krylon paint can cap and a hose clamp works in a pinch.

No need to do anything with it. Just keep them closed, and all is good. But, I would have recommended Rarly8 headers from Brian on here. They are AWESOME performers, and you can either have heat, or no heat.

I have the exact same setup burch headers with M&K little mufflers and love them. As for the heater boxes I just use him as a chase for wires for extra wire and if you have a fiberglass bumper it clears underneath them and you do not have to cut out anything. I don't have any holes in my bumper no notches just a clean line.

Those little guys are pretty loud but it's a beautiful sound enjoy it. If you see a black and white in your mirror take your foot off the throttle. You lose a little bottom end with the lack of back pressure. I had to reach in my mixture up quite a bit. You need to get the oil line from elephant to go over tops it's not in the way for the right side out. You save a lot of weight and there's no support needed for those little things.

you can get headers with heat from Brian. I went without heat in one of my cars and I missed it... but I am getting old!!

capping the heat openings keeps everything clean and provides a finished look. If you ever decide to go back to heat, you would be surprised how much "stuff" has gotten into the uncapped areas.

I'm a little nervous about that choice for the track mufflers. I found a comparison on youtube below for the track mufflers and 2 in 2 out sport mufflers.

what do you guys think? I want throaty but remember this is a street car with some autoX!

I have to confess I cut aluminum beer cans, painted them black and secured them with hose clamps. Did that on the front vents too.

Krylon spray paint caps with hose clamps work great.

Remove them and cap them.

At least here during the winter plenty of wildlife willing to colonize anything.

Happened to me and is a biatch to clean the ducts all the way to the front and beyond to the front

Cap them!

I asked Brian @ RarlyL8 that question, he said for stock 3.0s he definitely recommends SSIs, but SSIs don't do much for 3.2s - so he built those headers you can see on his site.

Here's his email to me from a few years back:

> I scrolled down and see you have an SC, I was thinking you had a Carrera. Sorry about that. For the stock SC the SSI exchangers are a nice improvement. They are a bit small for the Carrera, resulting in minimal improvement when compared to the premuffer/muffler combo. The SC shows more improvement due to smaller port size matching the SSI more closely. We have tuned headers with heat but they are designed for the 3.2L engine or modified 3.0L. So for your SC I would recommend SSI and one of our dual inlet mufflers. I really Like that combo on the SC.

i asked the same question...

ssi's are better for me because my motor is stock.

"Headers work better than a cat bypass on the 2.7L engine. I assume the thermol reactors are long gone. Keep the primary size 1.5" optimally. Our headers are designed for larger displacement engines or highly modified 2.7-3.0L engines so would not work as well for you as something like SSI.
Thank you!
Brian"
