To me, it looks like the place has just about everything -- except maybe a suitable mission vehicle for Lee: ------------------ Jack Olsen My Rennlist page • My Pelican Gallery page • My Porsche Owners Gallery page [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 10-26-2001).] |

That's a pretty-good sized dish you've got there, Lee! It must get HBO pretty well in the worst of weather ... which can get pretty nasty in winter over there, I hear! Nice dune cruiser, too!

i wonder what that thing the hummer is parked next to, almost looks like a portable gas station.
also, what do you think that structure in the distance in the second pic is? kinda looks like a train tunnel cut into a hill. ------------------ Daryl Planter 91C2 Targa |

Fortified aircraft hangars. He's along side a runway. You can see the control tower in the first picture.

Great shots, thanks Leland and Jack.
I am with Bil on the structures, they could be used for Ammo too near an airfield. Shawn |

...look carefully, it is actually a giant smiley face(ie. "have a nice day") You can only see the top of it and half the eyes due to slope of the terrain. New way to ridicule Taliban.

Good Lord, are we fighting the Martians?
You need a lunar rover instead of a Hummer. I hope we can get this over quick so Lee and others (my brother included) can get out of that hellhole. Looks to me like you could starve them out pretty quick. |

I suspected these guys needed all the morale boosting goodies we could send. Now I KNOW they do! Jack, think you could ship a few dozen Hollywood starlets? I know the guys would appreciate the gesture.

Wow...my "Hawaiian fudge" will never make it there alive. I thought they aren't allowed to show pictures like these?
BTW, that cube thing is either storage (small office type) or a generator, unless things in the air force are different than the ones in the army. ------------------ Jeff 1976 911S Coupe |

Thanks for the pix, Jack (memories, memories).
BTW guys - nothing in these pix would even be considered 'sensitive'. What you see is low tech exterior stuff, fairly common in the region, and used by many foreign friendlies. All the good stuff is inside in these pix. Location? To figure that, just triangulate on the enormous amount of energy generated by any air base activity. But, then you have to penetrate defenses (I wish the bad guys would try that!). It's SOP for our forces to take great care concealing equipment & ops, so the intel people are usually more concerned with the release (unintended & otherwise) of data such as logistics & personnel numbers. |

Hi guys,
No there is nothing sensitive in the photos. The only reason our location is still classified is because the "host nation" dosen't want to boast to its neighbors that there are US troops in their yard. Even though CNN was here a day after MSgt Andrews was killed. I'm sure some of you saw it on TV. First US troop killed over here. He was in my squadron from Mtn. Home. Very sad. We have named the camp over here "Camp Andy" in his memory. Anyway, enjoy the pics. |
