Guessing most already know the Outlaw theme started with Rod Emory and his 356's, not Magnus. Easier to understand when applied to 356's as it was unpopular to deviate from stock. How many hot rodded, upgraded or outlawed 356's do you see compared to 911's?

Like the bottom right and rectangular middle. Keep up the steady progress. I too have a middie, but am only in the information and part collecting phase. Thanks for your posts, enjoy learning and watching your progress.

Tis the same. Someone was modifying cars, some other people got annoyed about it, and a marketing buzzword appears. It mostly bothers me because people have been modifying classics for decades and suddenly if you do it to a Porsche it's an outlaw? It always struck me as a pretentious term for car that has simply been modified.

Then again I still hear people argue over the pronunciation of a word that can't exist in the English phonetic system, sooo...

If that tail is the real deal, you could fund a lot of parts for that car. Few grand, maybe more nowdays.

Munky King 10-04-2017 04:14 PM

Thanks for the kind comments and inspiration :)

Don, As the tail is not really in the style of where I'm headed it will probably find itself in these hallowed pages if I don't end up using it as garage wall art.

I can't read these comments at work, but luckily I think we are on the same track...
I had a play on CAD with the general idea and came up with thesehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1507162330.png

Will take on board the comments and suggestions and try a few more tomorrow.
Thanks so much for the input!:D

Managed to put this through on a big print today as part of a plastic test piece for the future stainless part. Looks like it came out okay.

Not a big fan of the color... but I'm going to put an order in for the first side now in stainless. Once it's here, I will see if there are any changes needed and make a mirror twin of it for the other side of the car

SC style...

Had a couple of packages waiting for me when I got home late last night.
Didn't get to open them as I had a tired 8yr old to put to bed!

I drilled mine out.

Trackrash 10-07-2017 07:22 PM

The correct size pin punch and a large vice to support the pedal, and that hammer should do the job.

Munky King 10-07-2017 09:30 PM

Thanks. I'll give both things another try tomorrow.
I bought a punch especially for the job. I've been thinking I should invest in both a big vice and a pillar drill for a while. Perhaps this could be the final excuse!

AND dont forget the Dremel that was advised back in post 41. It is an incredibly useful tool for a restorer.

Flip it over to the unmolested side. Place on the floor and place the clutch on a 4X4. The wood will absorb some of the impact and make the pin take a lot of the force. The punch end should be the same size as the pin.

If you try to drill the roll pin, you may break off drill bits inside the pin itself. As it is rolled steel, the bit ends snap off inside the roll pin. Once that happens, you are trying to drill out hardened drill bits as well. :-(

lastly, you might try a little Kroil, pb blaster on the pin as you are punching it out. Good luck!

One more thing - line up the punch perfectly, grab a mini sledge (on second look I think your hammer is sufficient) and watch the top of the punch as you strike it with the sledge so you don't break your hand. Max strikes and that will drive the roll pin out. If you are tap tap tapping with that little hammer, you'll smoosh the end up and wedge it in there.

Thanks everyone :D

***BREAKING NEWS***

Big hammer 1, amazingly strong roll pin 0! :D
In the end, drilling the center of the pin to find a strong location for a punch (killing the edge on two drill bits) and then big hammer seemed to do the trick.

Wish the whole car was made of the stuff. Wow, that really was fun!

All drilling performed with an exceptionally helpful Dremmel hand tool too!

Didn't stop me from ordering a drill press and the vice of my dreams last night :)

Well my bargain window latch turned up.
I now know why it was so cheap!
At least I now have enough parts to copy to make a new pair for myself.

Think I will be making the screwed in, three screw section out of stainless too, as this one looks like it has the pox!
It makes the one I do have look good!

Trackrash 10-10-2017 07:32 AM

FWIW, Stoddard has new latches.

Munky King 10-10-2017 06:12 PM

Trackrash - thanks for that. $125 isn't too bad all things considered. I think mine will probably cost me something similar to make in stainless. That could be the painless option... :D

Munky King 10-11-2017 05:05 AM

Soooo excited.
New toy arrived. I've wanted a decent vice for years and finally have one :)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1507726994.JPG
Complete with photobombing Dremel to prove I have one too!
My wife wasn't as impressed, when I dragged her out to the garage to look at its assembled majesty!

DerkPerk 10-11-2017 09:31 AM

Did she give you the wrapping paper to wrap it back up for Christmas???

Looking forward to your progress and maybe a first hand peek. Looks like you live on the west side of town?

So true! The place where they used to make the Tonka toys.

The other thing is part of my garage counter cover clutter.

I've found in a shared garage (with wife and son) that any clear surface, such as a workbench, soon becomes populated with all sorts of stuff that was nothing to do with me.

Where as, an already covered counter, gains much less... so I've worked out if I put big but easy stuff to move on there, it has less stuff put on it and it's easy to clear as the clutters only intention is to clutter and be easily moved. :)

The Christmas paper is actually one of those useful icey Day windshield covers. Big, easily moveable. Never been on a car, but it's VERY useful :D
