Brakefluid Overflow Exit Point

Hi All,

I just discovered a small leak just behind the front oil cooler on my 82 911SC Targa. I located a small clear tub that looks to be a drain for some type of fluid. It does not have a smell and looks to match the color of brake fluid. I did just replace the rear pads, so tis would make sense. Is that where the line terminates?

I just bled mine and don't remember any hose being on the bleeder screws nor have I seen overflow lines ever on calipers. So unless someone added that I would say its something else.

Brake fluid definitely has a smell. Open a bottle if you need to refresh your memory.
Thought I had a rear main (flywheel) seal but thankfully it was just the clutch slave cylinder leaking brake fluid into my bell housing. Collect a bit to smell it if it's still leaking.

The brake fluid reservoir overflow exits from a clear plastic tube at the front of the car. You can follow the overflow line from the reservoir to the exit point if you lift the frunk liner out of the way.

Agreed. It's nowhere near the oil cooler.

Can you show another pic from a wider angle?

The OP could have a front cooler other than the one commonly found in the wheel well. If so, this may be the brake fluid over flow tube. Yes, a wider angle shot would help.

This. On my '83 the exit point is on at the front left (driver) side. It is near the washer fluid reservoir. You can find this point relatively quickly when you use a power bleeder and forget to pinch off the overflow tube at the reservoir.

Good point - my line is under the fuse panel on the drivers side so I naturally 'assumed' the OP's oil cooler would be in the fwd RH/passenger side wheel well (opposite side) and thus not close to ea other.
I've seen some lines exit behind the front bumper, so if a cooler was mounted there, well that's that.
I searched the forum and found some exit elsewhere but this seems MY dependent.

Yes, this is the end of overfill-drain-tube. got the same install on my SC.

when filler is up full and you work on brakes (e.g. pad change) and push back the caliper pistons pushing back fluid, the reservoir may overflow.

so allways check fluid level first, and if necessary drain some fluid first.

when bleeding brake lines by pressure, allways block off drain line with a tight clasp!!
