My journey from SC to RSR and everything in between

I am new to the Pelican community as a poster but I have been a long-time reader / lurker on the forum.

I started as a tech in the automotive business nearly 30 years ago. For much of that time I worked at a well known Indi shop in South Florida. I cut my teeth working on air cooled 911’s. Since I was a kid these cars have been an obsession. We specialized in Porsche but we also saw a lot of Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, Pagani and others. Working on those exotics always made me appreciate the quality of the engineering in the air cooled 911’s even more.

This is not my first go round on a ground up build, I have done a number of others. I thought it was about time I shared the project with the community here. My shop is Passion Driven in New Castle Delaware (passion-driven.com). My goal with the thread on this build was not to promote the shop, its simply to document, share and get some feedback on my current project.

So hear it goes… comments, questions, suggestions always welcome.

Its essentially my own vision for an RSR, not an exact copy of a factory RSR. More along the lines of my own version. I envision many many hours of my personal sweat in this project but… as the name says its Passion Driven. Feel free to let the comments, good and bad, fly.

The personal journey started with a search for a donor car. I landed what I needed… A 1978 SC in somewhat rough condition but solid enough that it ran and drove well enough to move it around and get it back east. Yea it came from BHCC but the car had good bones and the price was right for what it was.

This is how she looked when I rolled her in from the truck. Not too bad but far from good…

This is sort of what I am shooting for in the looks department. The vision here is to make it very detail oriented with very very high end components and extreme attention to detail...

Thanks for looking... let me know what you think

Its going to be steel back date. Already hard at work on it. I'll update with photos.

Already have the body under way. Turbo flairs and long hood fenders from Dansk. Doing it the right way with correct latch panel for the long hood. Lots of metal fab work. Sierra Madre Collection center front hood center fill parts. The list of parts I have collected is pretty substantial already.

I am not cutting any corners. Have been working with EBS and a number of other suppliers on the engine build. I'll get together the specs and post them along with how far I have come on the engine so far.

Garage
It is a marathon, no doubt. I've been working on mine for 2 years now. Still have months of work ahead of me. But, at least I can open the door to my garage now and smile. I considered doing the center fill gas thank, but in talking to folks it sounded like a cool thing that was a bit of PIA to live with. If you have the time and ability, a '72 style side oil door seems a bit more functional and equally cool - at least to me. Good luck!

FWIW Marc (passiondriven) is a friend of mine. He has worked on several of my cars. I have seen the plans and the work already done on this build. All I can say is, its already is amazing. I can't wait to see the finished product. The attention to detail is really OCD. My 88 coupe is over at his shop now. Just seeing the treasure trove of parts is enough to make me drool. Next time I am there I'll shoot some pics.
