I noticed on my new (rebuilt) motor, there's what seems to be a sending unit that's not connected. Can someone identify this for me please?
Thanks!! ![]() ------------------ Michael '78 911SC Euro |

That's the temperature gauge sender. It reads oil temp in the gallery which comes directly from the main bearings.

It may be the '83 only, and I think it is, that has quite a number of temp switches, and this is one of them. It causes the frequency valve to operate at about 60 degrees of dwell until that switch gets to about 100 degrees F. It is not useful in the '78.

it's not the temp gauge sender. it relates to the oxy sensor system as described by superman. the switch on the left cover is the cold start thermo-time switch.

Ok, so being that I "backdated" the '83 longblock with a '78 CIS assembly, this is of no use, and should not be connected?
